Nebraska Dept of Economic Development visits Fillmore County



Nebraska Department of Economic Development Staff Visits
Fillmore County was host to visitors from the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (NEDED) staff on September 1st. Patt Lentfer, FCDC Executive Director, Jodi Kleinschmidt, FCDC Public Relations Co. and Gene Fischer, Fairmont Village Board Chairman welcomed the guests near Fairmont.
The visit included NEDED’s newly appointed Director, Brenda Hicks-Sorensen, who was chosen by Governor Pete Ricketts after a national search that began in December. Hicks-Sorensen previously held a position as a Wisconsin business recruiter. Lynn Kohout and Deb Eggleston, NEDED Field Representatives, accompanied the NEDED Director.
The visit included a tour with facts about CPI-Lansing, The Andersons, and Flint Hills Resources and a short drive through of their facilities. Gene Fischer shared information how Fairmont used TIF (Tax Increment Financing) to help those companies locate near Fairmont which created 70 new jobs. The group stopped and toured Metal Tech Partners before meeting at the Heartland Bank conference room where Jason Rippe, plant manager, told the story of Bioiberica Nebraska and Bio-Tee USA. The afternoon concluded with Kyle Svec, Geneva City Administrator, giving an overview of Geneva and FCDC Board members meeting the NEDED Director and asking her questions.

Exeter-Milligan JV Football Team Scrimmage with Friend



The Friend Bulldog Junior Varsity football team hosted the Exeter-Milligan Timberwolf Junior Varsity football team in a scrimmage on Monday evening in Friend.  Each team had three rounds of 10 plays with no score officially kept.

Exeter-Milligan Graduate Joins Hasting Sympony Orchestra





Jordyn Brandt, a recent Exeter-Milligan graduate and Freshman music major at Hastings College, has been selected to perform flute with the Hastings Symphony Orchestra.  This year marks the 90th season for the symphony.  It is comprised of professional musicians from across the state, members of the music faculty at Hastings College, and a select group of talented Hastings College students.  The symphony is conducted by Dr. Byron Jensen, professor of music at Hastings College.
HSO performs six shows each season.  The first show of the season is free to attend and is being held at 3:00, on Sept. 13, at Chautauqua Park in Hastings. The concert will feature music performed from the symphony’s first season in honor of its 90th Anniversary. Season performances will be held on Oct. 25, Dec. 6, Feb. 28, and April 24 at the Masonic Center in Hastings. Tickets for individual performances are $15 for adults and $13 for seniors over age 60. Season tickets are $55 for adults and $50 for seniors. Students are admitted free. Tickets are available at hastingssymphony.com. For the last event of the season, two free daytime performances will be held for local school groups and two free evening performances will be held for the community, on April 29, at the Masonic Center

Swim Don't Give In



The Fillmore County Coalition hosted the 2nd Annual Swim! Don't Give In! on Sunday, August 30th in Exeter at the Exeter Aquatic Center. This event was open to 7-12th graders in Fillmore County to encourage them to not “give in” to the temptations of drugs and alcohol. Food was served and a giant inflatable was in the park for students to enjoy along with tons of freebies.  The pool and the park were busy during the evening.

Exeter Public Library Story Hour



Giddy-up! Cowboys and cowgirls are invited to come to the Exeter Public Library for a special cowboy story hour Saturday, Sept. 19. Preschool-Kindergarten kids’ session is at 1 p.m. The 1st-2nd grade group is scheduled for 3 p.m. Buckaroos will be treated to a story, snack and special craft. Cowboy hats and spurs optional!
