Exeter Scouts Visit Radio Station

DJ Mike Thomas records the Exeter Cub Scouts pictured from the left, Troy Kallhoff (behind box), Blake Meyer, Devin Harrison (behind), Tyler Due, Clint Oldehoeft, Jackson Beethe, Mikey Bartu, Ben Bartu, Braden Capek and Den Chief Joey Bartu.

Exeter Cub Scout Pack 218 got to hear what they would sound like on the radio. The pack visited the studio of stations KTMX and KAWL as part of a go see it project for the Tiger Cubs.
Ten of the scouts got to see all the equipment that goes into making a radio station work.  The tour, given by DJ Mike Thomas, helped the boys learn about the importance of radio communication especially during bad weather.
The scouts also got to meet station owner/DJ Mark Jensen who showed them one of the light bulbs from the radio tower that had just been changed that afternoon.  The scouts learned about the difference between FM and AM frequencies and then got the opportunity to speak into the radio microphones and record themselves.  Thomas replayed their voices adding music to the background and showing the boys how a commercial is made in the studio.
Before heading for home the scouts stopped for an ice cream treat.
