Exeter-Milligan sixth graders are a small but mighty group under the
tutelage of first year teacher Treven Cerveny.
There are only seven students in the class but Cerveny sees this as a
distinct advantage for this group, “I have a lot of one-on-one time with my
students. This allows me to get to know
each student as an individual. In turn I
am able to help enhance student’s strengths and improve some of their
weaknesses.
While teaching the basics Cerveny is hoping to prepare this group for
next year’s big change in their lives, junior high. He is focusing on responsibility and
organization in his classroom, “As the year continues to move on I will require
the students to become more and more independent so that they are ready for the
next level. They need to understand that
they will be required to do much more for themselves next year so it is crucial
that they start to get in the habit of being independent and hard-working now.”
Of course, fun is still a part of the classroom as the sixth graders have
enjoyed some classroom celebrations along with some educational games. Cerveny has enjoyed this fun group, “They all
have their own unique personalities and interests which is very cool to see.”
As a first year teacher he has enjoyed this group noting that they have
helped make his experience a great one so far.
He is also enjoying his introductory year, “It is great to work with a
group that is so tight-knit and willing to help each other out. The other teachers and administrators have
helped me to develop as a teacher already.”

Obituary for Tess E. Moor
Obituary for Tess E. Moor
Theressa
Ellen “Tess” Moor was born to Joseph and Anna (Haffey) Hays on April
22, 1932, on the family farm near Edison, Nebraska, and she passed away
on December 20, 2016, in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 84 years, 7
months and 28 days. Tess was the last of ten children born in the
family.
Tess, as she was affectionately known by all, attended country school through the sixth grade and then enrolled in school in Edison, where she graduated with the class of 1949. Following graduation, she was employed with Farmers & Merchants Bank in Edison. She then went to Lincoln for employment with Union Insurance Company. In 1955 she was united in marriage to Max Becker. This union ended 17 days later when Max tragically lost his life in a well drilling accident. She remained in Exeter following his death before returning to her former employment in Lincoln. She then took a position with First National Bank in Exeter. She was united in marriage to Duane Moor of Exeter in May of 1958, and to this union three children were born: Denice, Brenda, and Brian. Duane passed away April 24, 1999.
Tess was a member of the Exeter American Legion Auxiliary Post 218 for 58 years and was active in St Stephen’s Altar Society. She enjoyed helping her neighbors as needed. She very much enjoyed her family and family reunions. The highlight of her life was her two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
For being a transplant, Tess embodied Exeter. She was a staple in the community, and you couldn’t think of one without the other. She will be missed.
Tess was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Max and Duane; 5 sisters; 3 brothers; and 1 nephew.
She leaves to mourn her passing daughters Denice Kovanda and husband Glenn of Milligan and Brenda Moor of Riverton, Wyoming; son Brian “Stub” Moor of Exeter; grandchildren Abby Vollmer and husband Chris of Hickman, and Clayton Kovanda and wife Alyssa of Geneva, Nebraska; great grandchildren Ava & Paige Vollmer and Ulysses Kovanda; her sister Mick of Elwood; and a host of relatives and friends.
A Funeral Mass for Tess was held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Exeter. Father Steve Thomlison was the Celebrant. Agnes Anderson accompanied the congregation and Jessica Ruhl was the cantor. Congregational hymns included “Be Not Afraid,” “Ave Maria,” “Gift Of Finest Wheat,” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Abby Vollmer also sang “Let There Be Peace On Earth” accompanied by Agnes Anderson.
Pallbearers for the service included Clayton Kovanda, Christopher Vollmer, Kurt Oates, Myron Dawson, Jamie Hays, and Danny Hays. Honorary bearers included Paige Vollmer, Ava Vollmer, and Ulysses Kovanda. Interment was held in the Exeter Cemetery following the Funeral Mass. Memorials are directed to the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Exeter American Legion, or the Exeter Fire & Rescue. Farmer Funeral Home of Exeter conducted the services. Online condolences may be left at www.farmerandsonfuneralhome.
