Obituary Kenneth Bolte

Services- Thursday , August 1 2:00 p.m. Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home

Kenneth Dwayne Bolte, age 87, from Exeter, Nebraska, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2024.

Kenneth graduated from Exeter High School in 1954. After high school, he started farming on the family farm and played in several polka bands. He married his wife, Delores Pawlish, in November 1959 and lived on the family farm northeast of Exeter.

During his life, he learned the carpentry trade. He was passionate about his woodworking projects, remodeling, and building homes. Kenneth loved the outdoors: fishing, hunting, farming, raising livestock, and gardening, which always provided a generous amount of produce. He retired 12 years ago and kept busy on the farm. He often went to town for coffee with friends, played cards, and put puzzles together.

His greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished watching his daughter and granddaughter in school activities and celebrating special holidays with homemade food. Knowing his great-grandchildren also brought him much enjoyment.

Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Delores; daughter Laurie Schaal (Jeff); granddaughter Sydney Schreier (Justin); great-grandchildren Soren and Poppy Schreier.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Katherine Bolte, and his grandparents.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Third Grade

What is happening in 3rd grade?!

By Ashley Arbuck, Exeter-Milligan Third Grade Teacher

The 3rd-grade students just finished up their reading unit on space.  They enjoyed learning about life on the ISS and the different aspects of the solar system.  Their favorite part of the unit was performing a reader's theater about different astronomers and their findings for the 1st-grade class

ELA Update

By Brandi Perez, Exeter-Milligan Language Arts Instructor

The high school ELA classroom has been busy covering a vast amount of content. English 9 students just wrapped up Romeo and Juliet. On the last day of Act V, students utilized the stage to act out the final moments of Romeo and Juliet. English 10 students are focusing on the question, “What is the relationship between power and freedom?” Students have read texts by Malala Yousafzai, John F. Kennedy, and Franklin D. Roosevelt. English 11 students have been working hard to decipher between who v. whom and using pronoun references correctly. The English 12 students just started a new unit on what types of experiences allow people to discover who they really are. Finally, the journalism students are working on implementing new equipment into their content creation, like bluetooth microphones, to promote the latest school events. Be on the lookout for videos and podcasts to listen to.

Exeter Days 2024: Glow Back to the 80's

The Exeter American legion was packed for the Fire Department Hot Roast Beef Sandwich meal Saturday night before the street dance.

It was hard to miss all the neon and the special 80's attire at this years Exeter Days, "Glow back to the 80's."

Exeter residents and guests enjoyed lots of food, fun and fellowship during the three day event.  The weekend started Friday night with a meal at the Exeter Legion along with an art activity.
The adults could enjoy a Beer Mile 4 x 4 when the evening cooled off a bit and after dark the outdoor big screen lit up for a showing of "The Incredibles" complete with popcorn.
Saturday morning started with the EMF Cross Country team sponsoring a fun run, "Running Back to the 80's" which had prizes for the best costumes.  The car show and Fire Department bake sale were also Saturday morning.
After the rib cook off started there was a three on three basketball tournament with two divisions.
The parade Saturday afternoon entertained all with Brian Murphy winning first place for his float, the EMF Volleyball team with second place and Gator's Pub in third place.
The Exeter GFWC Woman's Club served pie in the Legion after the parade and the Handy Hands 4H club were on hand selling soft serve ice cream to go on that pie.
Also Saturday afternoon there was a cornhole tournament and the rib cook off judging awarded the top prize to Mighty Mo's BBQ team.
The Exeter Senior Center was full of young and old for a fun round of bingo during the heat of the day and Carter Milton got the first black out card.
The highlight of the weekend was the fire department meal and the street dance Saturday evening. Of course 80's music was featured by the band AM/FM and the hot roast beef sandwiches served by the fire department were excellent.
Sunday morning started with the church service in the park led by Exeter Methodist Community Church Pastor Murry Johnston and attended by over 40.
After church there were over 20 participants in the triathlon from preschoolers to adults. The Ag in Italy Trip group served a free will donation biscuits and gravy breakfast after church
Over the weekend pool entry was free but lots of kids got wet in the park wide water balloon fight with a little help from the fire department tanker truck.
Exeter Community Club President Sara Pella thanked everyone who sponsored or donated towards an activity, "We couldn't make this weekend happen without all of you!"
Of course the weekend fun would not have been possible without sponsorships from Generations Bank and Insurance, T-Squared, Ekeler Repair, Exeter Area Community Foundation, Exeter Volunteer Fire Department, Exeter Legion, Erdkamp Motors, Harre Seed and Services, Manning Grain, Sons of the American Legion and the Village of Exeter.
