Evelyn Mae Rouse Reed was born to Ernestine Cutter and John Rouse on March 5, 1938 and passed away on June 2, 2026 at 1:45 am at Gold Crest Home in Adams, NE at the age of 88 years and 2 months. She was one of four children, June, Evelyn, John Jr. and Nancy.

They lived on Teal Street in Shelbyville, Indiana until she married Larry David Reed in November of 1959. Larry and Evelyn moved to Fairmont, NE in June of 1960 and lived on Main Street. To them three children were born, Cathy, Cindy, and David. They lived in Fairmont until Larry said it was time to move to York because of his job. Evelyn worked hard to support her family. She worked as a maid at the Camelot Motel, at the egg factory, and at the sewing factory which was in the building west of the Western Edge. Larry and Evelyn divorced in 1984.

Evelyn was faithful and belonged to the Lutheran church and the 7th Day Adventist church. Due to health problems Evelyn moved to the ‘R’ Home in Lincoln. While at the ‘R’ Home she had fallen and broken an arm. Because she needed additional daily help until her arm healed, she moved to the Crete Manor to be closer to family. When that home closed, she moved to a home in Milford and then finally to the Gold Crest Home in Adams, NE. She spent 22 good years in these homes. During that time she was cared for by special friend Karen Brandt.

Evelyn enjoyed embroidering, playing spades, and hearts, but her favorite thing to do was to play Bingo and have visits from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She passed on her love of card games by teaching her grandchildren how to play spades whenever they visited.

Evelyn was preceded in death by: her parents John Rouse, Sr. and Ernestine Cutter; sister June Neeb; aunt Pauline Cutter, father and mother-in law Richard M Reed and Mary Helen Reed, ex-husband Larry D. Reed, brother-in-law Johnny M Reed, and grand-daughters Tonya Elizabeth Reed and Tonya Elizabeth Watson.

She is survived by children Cathy (Claine) Meyer, daughter Cindy (Michael) Plumber, and son David Reed; special friend and caregiver Karen Brant; grandchildren Andre Watson, Lesley (Pete) Watson, Sean Watson, Lucous Meyer, Richard Meyer; great-grandchildren Trea Watson, Melody Watson, Madelynn Watson, Brentley Watson, Blake Meyer, Joshua Meyer, Emma Meyer, Natalie Meyer, Hannah Meyer, and Logunn Meyer; sister Nancy and brother John Jr.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was deeply loved and will be missed by all.
