Exeter-Milligan Update: FCCLA


On October 3, 2018 approximately 300 Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members gathered at Central Community College in Hastings, Nebraska for the District #4 Leadership Conference. These 7 schools came together: Bruning-Davenport High School, Bruning-Davenport Middle School, Cross County, Doniphan-Trumbull, Exeter-Milligan, Fillmore Central, and Sutton. All kids in attendance grew their leadership skills by Dare 2 be Different with FCCLA.
Chapters were welcomed to the conference by the District #4 Officers, followed by the presentation of the Colors by Bruning-Davenport Middle School Chapter. A keynote presentation was created by the Technology Officer- Nick Andrews (Fillmore Central). This keynote featured the FCCLA Chapters within District #4 and their chapter highlights. Chapters also displayed past STAR projects and Chapter “Shout Out” boards.
Our State and PEER Education Officer from High Plains and our State President from Milford were also welcomed by the FCCLA members.
As a group, we heard from the keynote speaker Kaiti Dinges speaking about Safe Dating with Jana’s Campaign. She told us about safe dating, the rules of love and no love. This presentation focused on helping us learn about abusive relationships, what they are and how you can get out of them - teaching us the to speak out and let it not happen to you.
Each member attended 2 breakout session and 2 mini sessions, these sessions were designed to help build leadership skills. Sessions included: 1st Aid Basics, PEER Ed Jeopardy, Dancing, Healthy Lifestyles, Jobs and Career Resumes, Know How 2 Go,

Banking/Saving for College, STAR Projects, Culinary Arts Tour, and more about Safe Dating.
The last session of the day, the District Officers and other members came out of

their comfort zone to do lip sync and dance off with other chapters. This involved leadership and communication skills.
District #4 Officers for the 2017 – 2018 conducted the opening and closing ceremonies, and those officers were: President Caitlin Murphy (Exeter-Milligan), Vice- President Maddie Fitch (Doniphan-Trumbull), Secretary/Treasurer Sera Johnson (Bruning-Davenport High School) Public Relations Mallory Jensen (Cross County) VP of Recreation Lydia Rogers (Sutton), VP of Media/Tech/Historian Nick Andrews (Fillmore Central), VP of STAR Paige Oltmans (Bruning-Davenport Middle School). The District #4 Adviser is Susan Biba from the Fillmore Central Chapter.
