Exeter-Milligan FCCLA attends State Leadership Conference
By Mary Lou Vossler, FCS Instructor and FCCLA Sponsor
Recently eight students from the Exeter-Milligan FCCLA chapter
attended the state Leadership Conference in Lincoln. Students competing at the
2018 Nebraska State FCCLA Leadership Conference were:
· Kaitlyn Vavra: Illustrated Talk
Sr. Category: Dementia, The Disease You'd Like to Forget: Silver
Medal;
· Hannah Horne: Leadership Sr.
Category: Finding My Leadership: Top Silver Medal & qualifies
for Nationals
· Daisy Kanode: Illustrated Talk Jr.
Category: Just Snap Out of It! (Depression): Top Gold Medal &
qualifies for Nationals.
· Caitlin Murphy: Recycle &
Redesign Sr. Category: Patchwork Plastic Pouf: Top Gold Medal & qualifies
for Nationals
These young ladies have spent approximately 50+ hours on their
projects. Before state, they presented within various classes at EMHS, FCCLA
STAR/Speech Night, UCC Church for Exeter Women's Club, will speak on April 24th to the Senior Citizen Center and will be required to
have other presentations before they go to Nationals.
Students who attended but did not compete were the incoming
officers – Jaiden Papik, Macy Due, Kate Jansky and Josie Kresak. They were
involved in a community service project at Cedar's Home for Children, others
toured the State Capitol and all took in youth sessions that were offered by
various speakers and topics. The Exeter-Milligan FCCLA Chapter was also
recognized for the Feed Nebraska State Project as we contributed 650 # to the
Fillmore County Blue Valley Food Bank. These non-perishable food items
were a result of our Trick or Treat So Others May Eat Food Drive and admission
to the FCCLA Sweetheart Dance during FCCLA Week to bring a non-perishable food
item.
The EM Boosters also provided us with an abundance of snacks and
water for the conference which we appreciated very much.
