Exeter-Milligan Update: 6th Grade

Anna Sluka and Kayla Geiger are using Inigma, a QR scanning app, to find the answers to Order of Operation problems in Math. This quarter the 6th grade has been learning about expanded notation with exponents, powers of fractions, order of operations with exponents, along with other algebraic concepts. They have found order of operations to be quite tricky, so they needed a little extra practice. They had task cards throughout the room that they had to find answers too. Once finished, they could use the Inigma app and check their answer.

Tri County Job Fair/Career Fair a Success

Fillmore County Economic Development, York County Economic Development, and Seward County Economic Development partnered with York College, Henderson Chamber, York Area Chamber, Seward Area Chamber, the Nebraska Department of Labor and area high schools to create the first ever Tri-County Job Fair and Career Fair on March 25th.

The Job Fair was held from 2:00-7:00 p.m. at the Campbell Center at York College.  Fifty-one businesses set up booths with information about their companies and the jobs that were available. Over 200 people attended the Job Fair.  Those attending could have resumes reviewed by Nebraska Workforce personnel and there was also space to fill out applications on the spot and return it to the businesses.

Nearly 160 students attend the Career Fair in the morning and heard presentations by Senator Greg Adams and Mark Ketcham, the Hudl Coach Relations Manager.  Next the students participated in panel discussions by business people involved in the six business clusters. Panelist from Fillmore County included Kenton Moore of Horizontal Boring & Tunneling, Karla Jacobson of Walter Real Estate, Mike Haumont of Perennial Public Power and Lisa Hopken of the Fillmore County Hospital.   The students ended their day by visiting with the vendors at the Job Fair.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Reading Group

Pictured are a couple of Mr. Jackson Krejci's Reading Mastery students Tyler Due and Josh Meyer working hard on their independent reading.  The group's focus this semester has been two finger tracking while following along as they take turns reading.  After the group reads together they then read independently. The last thing they do to check for understanding is complete their independent work which includes answering questions from their story.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Advanced Math

Mary Kay Pribyl's Advanced Math Class at Exeter-Milligan is studying the nature of graphs.  They are starting out with learning the parent graphs and transformations of the parent graphs.  The class members are showing the graphs of y = x³ and y = x.  As they continue this unit they will study continuity and end behavior of the graphs and locate critical points and extrema of graphs.  This unit will help prepare them for calculus.  Pictured (L-R) are Jordyn Brandt, Brooke Manning, Kylie Briske, Madison Horne, Amber Pribyl, and Dillan Jindra.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Applied Science Class

Exeter-Milligan Science Update by Lorie Sliefert

The Applied Science class has been studying Siege Machines and each student has built model catapults.   By varying the projectile size and tension used to power the catapult, they investigated how far the projectile traveled.   They also made trebuchets, shown in the picture.   They calculated how much mass they need in order for the projectile to hit a wall that was placed a set distance away. Pictured are Devin Sheffield (sitting) and Broc Mueller testing their trebuchets.
