Exeter-Milligan FCS/FCCLA Happenings

EMHS FCCLA STAR (Students Taking Action for Recognition)
participants presented their STAR projects at the annual Speech/STAR night
which was held on Monday, March 7th. Those attending had an opportunity
to hear the FCCLA STAR projects as well as the speech teams
presentations. Those presenting their STAR projects were: Left to
Right: Daisy Kanode, Hannah Horne, Caitlin Murphy, Haylee Sheffield,
Brianna Beatham and Samantha Horne.
Daisy's project: Recycle & Redesign Project of:
Down with the Denium, featured her 3 couch pillows, 5 minute oral
presentation, her sharing information about the planning process, design
sketch, time log, material profile, story board and information about the
importance about recycling. Daisy will compete at State Leadership
Conference.
Hannah and Samantha Horne: Focus on Children:
Always Be Clean, Practice Good Hygiene focused on the importance of
proper hygiene amongst the elementary students. They were able to
distribute 85 hygiene kids through the generosity of local businesses for their
contributions. The girls also went into the elementary classrooms and
taught some helpful lessons about hygiene.
Caitlin Murphy presented her Focus on Children project of:
Yours To Keep. It's focus was on the distribution of school
supplies to our K-6 grade students. These supplies were donated by the
Methodist Church and community members of both Exeter and MIlligan. She
taught a helpful lesson on responsibility of school supplies to the 3-6 graders
and made monthly visits to each of the classrooms to distribute school
supplies. Caitlin qualified to present her project at State Leadership
Conference in April.
Haylee Sheffield's Illustrated Talk project features the
Royal Family Kids Camp. This project focused on the importance of
confronting abuse and changing lives, the history of the camp, focus and
mission of the camp and her participation at the camp during the summer of
2015. Haylee will compete at State Leadership with this project.
Brianna Beatham's Illustrated Talk project focused on
Multiple Sclerosis, a disease her mother, Billie Jo is living with. Her
projects focus was to make an awareness of the disease, symptoms and statistics
of MS and she also raised over $350 during an organized orange out. These
funds will be sent to the MIdwest Chapter for Multiple Sclerosis.
All STAR participants will attend State Leadership
Conference April 3-5 in Lincoln, NE. Caitlin, Haylee and Daisy will
compete on Monday, April 4th, while Hannah, Samantha, Brianna and Tara have
volunteered to do a community service project at the People's City Mission.
FACS News:
FACS 7- The students have just finished up their chef aprons
and will be using them in food labs.
Foods & Nutrition- Students are learning about the
nutrients more in depth, with this learning, they are also in the lab preparing
various foods within these nutrient categories.
FCS II- Hear the sewing machines buzzing? The girls
are constructing useful items for their everyday life.
Child Development- Our focus has been on the toddler,
learning about the physical, intellectual and social/emotional development
within this age group.
EXP FACS 9- Students are finishing up their EverFI Financial
Literacy curriculum and will now focus on their budgeting project.
Upcoming events: FCCLA will help with the Exeter
Community Easter Egg Hunt on March 20th @ 1:30 p.m. in Exeter at the school
FCCLA State Leadership Conference will be held in Lincoln on
April 3- April 5
Hwy 6 Roadside Cleanup will be scheduled in April.
