Exeter-Milligan Update: Voting for Gold Sower Books

Golden Sower Award Books by Lisa Soukup, Exeter-Milligan Media Specialist

Each year 10 books are nominated for the Golden Sower Award for the Primary section. The GSA nominee list is developed by selection committees of volunteer readers representing classroom teachers, media specialists, and librarians in Nebraska. Each list is created from nominated titles sent in by participating libraries and schools from across the state. Local library or school officials are responsible for selecting books from these lists they feel are appropriate for the needs and interests of their patrons or students.

The Kindergarden-2nd grade have been reading and doing activities with the Golden Sower Nominee books since before Christmas.  The book "Sky Color" was read by Mrs. Kanode in Art class and then they created an art project using various colors for the sky. The following is the list of nominees for this year:
One Cool Friend by Toni Buzzeo
Crafty Chloe by Kelly DiPucchio
Being Frank by Donna W. Earnhardt
Lost and Found by Bill Harley
Mousetronaut by Mark Kelly
Three Hens and a Peacock by Lester L. Laminack
Creepy Carrots! by Aaron Reynolds
Sky Color by Peter H. Reynolds
Randy Riley’s Really Big Hit by Chris Van Dusen
Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson

Voting eligibility requires readers to have read or heard a minimum of four of the current nominees from the category in which they will be voting, Primary, Intermediate, or Young Adult. The Exeter-Milligan K-2 students will be voting on their favorite Golden Sower Nominee book within the next 2 weeks. The results will be tabulated on the Nebraska Golden Sower site and after April 19, the winner will be announced. Last year 75,545 people voted in three categories.
