Only three banks in the state of Nebraska have participated
in the National Teach Children to Save day since its inception in 1997. Generations Bank in Exeter, is one of those
three banks.
This year Sharla Dinneen represented Generations Bank to
students at both the Exeter and Milligan campus.
Dinneen emphasized to the students that “We would like to
encourage you to start young to have good savings skills and to save more.”
Dinneen shared with the students how money is made and told
the students about the different United States Mints. She explained that all of
Nebraska’s money comes from the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City.
The students learned about the phrase that “Money doesn’t
grow on trees” during Dinneen’s presentation.
Also during the afternoon session, Dinneen helped the children
understand the differences between needs and wants when shopping and saving.
To emphasize the
point about money growing each student was given a plantable wildflower seed
bill made from recycled paper along with a snack and a drink courtesy of
Generations Bank.
This event is scheduled each April during Financial Literacy
Month.
