Fillmore County Replacement Facility Construction Update

Panels like this one are being trucked in on a daily basis and progress placing them is going very quickly.

As you can see from this photo a good deal of the hospital has the exterior in place and they are working around the back side. There is a crane in the back that lifts the poured wall piece in place and then a welder works to attach the piece to the steel beam structure.

EXETER COMMUNITY CALENDAR

The Exeter Cub Scout Pack 218 will hold their Blue and Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby on Sunday, February 19th.

The Exeter Senior Center will have their lunch bunch on Tuesday, February 21 at noon. They will be serving Ham Loaf, mashed sweet potatoes and creamed peas.

The Exeter Senior Center will have their birthday and anniversary coffee on Wednesday, February 22nd starting at 9 am. There will also be blood pressure checks available.

The Exeter Legion Auxiliary #218 will hold it's Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, February 26 at the Legion Hall in Exeter, NE. They will be serving Spaghetti w/homemade meat sauce, buttered corn, dinner salad w/homemade dressings, garlic bread and ice cream sundaes from 11:00 - 1:00 for a free will offering.

The community is invited to an Open House honoring Jeannine Krejci for all the years she has shared her musical talents. The event will be on February 26 from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Exeter Care Center.

The Exeter Senior Center will have their lunch bunch on Tuesday, February 28 at noon. They will be serving Wing Dings, hash brown casserole and green beans.

Exeter-Milligan School will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Thursday, March 1st and there will be no school on Friday, March 2nd.

If you anticipate enrolling your child in kindergarten at Exeter-Milligan the fall of 2012, please plan to attend our Kindergarten registration on Monday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m at the Exeter site cafeteria.

The Exeter Chamber of Commerce will meet on Wednesday March 7th at noon. Contact Rob Androyna at rob@exeter-arms.com prior to 4:25 the day before the meeting in regards to your attendance.

The Exeter Village Board will meet on Tuesday, March 6th at 7:00 pm.

Exeter-Milligan School will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Thursday, March 8th and there will be no school on Friday, March 9th.

The Exeter American Legion Auxiliary will meet on Monday, March 12th at 7:00 pm at the Exeter American Legion Home.

Exeter-Milligan School will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, March 14th.

The Exeter Chamber of Commerce will host their Easter Egg Hunt at the Exeter school on Saturday, March 24th at 1:00 pm.

The Exeter K-6 Spring Concert will be on Tuesday, March 27th in Milligan at 7:00 pm.

Village Board Notes - February 7

The Exeter Village Board approved the one and six year road plan and accepted the retirement plans of Library Director Nina Bartu in their monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 8th.

After passing Resolution 12-02, approving the one and six year road plan, the Board heard from Library Director Bartu who gave the yearly library report and noted the paragraph on the second page. It explained that she will be retiring as library directory this fall and her current assistant, Jessica Votipka, will fill the director position,

"Jessica is going through the basic courses to be certified and is doing well with that, I will stay on to work one day a week or fill in when need but this way I can be there to help her transition over," said Bartu.

The board expressed their appreciation for Bartu's years of service with Chairman Alan Michl noting, "We hate to see you leave the position but glad to see you have the opportunity to retire."

The Board also heard from Exeter resident Jerry Walford who presented a photo of a scoreboard for the ballfield that his family would like to purchase in memory of Lori Ruhl-Walford and Gary Ruhl. The scoreboard will be wireless and the family will be choosing an appropriate logo for decoration. Walford will contact the Board when the equipment arrives and the Village will assist the installation. Board member Kathy Erdkamp noted that, "This is a very nice gift."

The neighborhood watch program in Exeter has dissolved and the watch board had some funds that were originally donated to the program by the village. Elva McBride, on behalf of the neighborhood watch, had requested guidance for emptying the fund, noting that they were interested in donating to the Exeter Cemetery Board. After discussion the Board approved donation of the leftover neighbor watch funds to the Exeter Cemetery Board.

The Board reviewed the applications they had received for Pool Manager, Assistant Pool Manager and Lifeguards for this summer. After discussion the board voted to hire Casey Pohl, Manager, Amanda Dineen, Assistant Pool Manager and as lifeguards, Claire White, Ashley Miller, Meghan Miller, Austin Stride, Kaitlyn Hertzel and Hunter Stride with the stipulation that all employees must obtain the proper certification for their position.

Fillmore County Zoning Director Donna Manwarring arrived at the meeting to discuss a building permit that she had discussed with resident Robert Rhodes. Rhodes was interested in purchasing part of a lot from a neighbor but the new zoning regulations make the property impossible to split.

For the Marshall's report the board discussed and passed unanimously Resolution 12-03, the closing of Exeter ballfield and Gilbert's Park from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m.

Maintenance Supervisor John Mueller reported that while he was cleaning snow the alternator went out on the motor grader but he was able to get in running again. He also reported that the pool repairs will be done in March.

Clerk Becky Erdkamp reported that the sales tax figures for October were $1288.78 for motor vehicles and $6938.48 for the pool fund. She also presented a Keno report noting that the city has received $490.00. The Board set the next meeting for Tuesday, March 6th at 7 p.m.

SENIOR BOYS EXETER HIGH CLASS OF 1949 The guys in this picture are L to R. It was taken in the spring of 1949 as we were to graduate that year from Exeter High School. The photo was taken by Lela Ann (Becker) Hassler who was also a member of the class of 1949. Accepted Items at the Exeter Recycling Trailer

Corrugated cardboard: All boxes or packing boxes with a wavy core. Examples: Grocery boxes, clean pizza boxes. Please no egg cartons, cereal boxes, 12 pack holders
Magazines: all types of magazines are accepted. Preparations: Remove any plastic wrapped covers or sleeves. No phone books
Newspapers: Daily, Sunday, or weekly publications Preparations: no sorting of colored or slick pages is needed. Do not include plastic sleeves.
Aluminum cans: Pop, beer, sports drinks, some pet food containers. Pleases no pie tins or aluminum foil. Preparations: rinse (Optional- remove pull tabs and save for Exeter Woman’s Club)
Tin Cans: These are most of the canned goods on your pantry shelves. Preparations: Rinse, labels can be left on. Flatten gallon or large cans .
#2 Plastic (HDPE) This is a harder colored or white plastic is not clear. Examples: milk and water jugs, laundry detergents, shampoo, coffee, some yogurt, margarine & cottage cheese containers. Check the bottom number to be sure Preparations: rinse and discard lids, crush large containers
#1 Plastic (PETE) All plastic bottles that contain liquids consumed by humans are packaged in clear or colored # 1 PETE plastic bottles. Some other food such as catsup and salad dressing may also be this type but you must check the bottom number to be sure. Examples: pop, cranberry juice, sports drinks, liquor Preparations: rinse and discard lids
What NOT to do! Please do not use this trailer as your garbage dump! Items must be clean and properly sorted or the recycling company will not accept the items. DO NOT throw in bags, boxes, string or other “holders” along with the recycling items.
