Throwback Thursday Feb 4 2011

1/30/2011

Students in Kindergarten, first and second grades spent the day counting to 100 with the first graders spending the majority of their day focusing on 100.

The Kindergarten class made necklaces with 100 pieces of cereal along with special headbands and a book about 100.  They also brought 100 of something to show to their class.

The first graders celebrated "100 days of being smarter."  Their teacher, Sharon Lott, encouraged them to dress up like they were 100 years old.  Canes and gray wigs were popular among the students.  Lott makes learning about the day very special, "We enjoy doing and sharing the projects to incorporate many areas of learning, not just the counting aspect."

Exeter-Milligan Girls lose Heartbreaker in CRC Semi-Final

Exeter-Milligan girls went cold in the second quarter of their semi-final game against Meridian at Hampton high.  The girls beat Osceola Thursday night in their first round of CRC action to meet Meridian who they defeated at home 44-27 last week.  That second quarter where the only two points came from Cameran Jansky's free throws came back to bite them hard.  Leading Meridian 43-42 with eight seconds on the clock, Meridian had control of the ball and launched a three pointer to win the game 45-43.  The Lady Timberwolves will meet BDS for the third time in the last few weeks for the third place game on Saturday at 6 p.m. in Osceola.

Record Breaking Snow Storm

Exeter received over a foot of snow on Monday, Jan 25.  Schools were closed Monday and Tuesday with a late start on Wednesday.  The wind came up on Wednesday and Thursday with blowing snow making roads treacherous again.  Area kids are enjoying all of the giant snow piles! After a dry fall and early winter it seems we are going to get a winter's worth of snow in just a few weeks as another large storm is predicted for next week.

Sticking to his promise, Exeter-Milligan Superintendent Paul Sheffield spent his lunch hour with the FCCLA members dyeing his hair pink.

To raise funds and awareness for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Sheffield promised to sport the magenta look if the group raised over $400.00 during their recent fundraising efforts.

According to FCCLA advisor Mary Lou Vossler the group raised "$848.00 from our events.  We raised $353 from the Pink Out raffle, $81 during the shot for a pop and $175 with cookie sales."

Adding to the total were the staff members who donate to wear jeans on Fridays and chose to contribute their Denim Days' collection to the pot.

The Village of Exeter recently purchased a new police vehicle and Saturday it saw it's first hours of service. The vehicle, a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Edition, was purchased from Erdkamp Motors in Exeter.  The old vehicle was traded in on the new purchase.

Village Board members chose the vehicle specifically because it has four-wheel drive along with a back seat and a storage area behind.

First Grade News

By Haley Johnson, Exeter-Milligan First Grade Instructor

E-M first graders are spreading kindness in the classroom by writing and delivering notes to their classmates. Each day they pick a new classmate to write to. They can choose to compliment the classmate or thank them for something. Many of the students have been thanking their classmates for playing at recess and for making them laugh. At the end of the week they can read their notes and take them home.
