Named Fillmore County Entrepreneur of the Year

The Fillmore County Development Corporation named Jaime Lopez, owner of the Molcajete Mexican Restaurant, “Fillmore County Entrepreneur of the Year” for 2017 at their annual meeting on February 8^th.  This is the first year for the award.

Jaime Lopez and his family first visited Geneva in December of 2015.  A former FCDC and Geneva Chamber member, Vern Kendall, made the contact with Lopez when he heard that he was interested in starting his own Mexican Restaurant.  Lopez had been managing a very successful restaurant in Phillipsburg, KS at the time.

The Lopez family liked Geneva and decided to work to establish a Mexican restaurant in the community.  A space was available on main street, Heartland Bank who owned the building was willing to work with him, Patt Lentfer, FCDC Director along with Griselda Rendon of REAP (Rural Enterprise Assistance Project) helped Jaime with the business plan, permits, etc. and he obtained a low interest through the City of Geneva’s LB 840 funds for economic development and the project got started.  After a lot of planning and hard work by Jaime Lopez the Molcajete Mexican Restaurant held their grand opening on October 21^st, 2016

Molcajete Mexican Restaurant is now a favorite restaurant in the area and offers an extensive menu, in a beautifully decorated space and is very family friendly.  The sit-down restaurant is open every day for lunch and dinner except Mondays. 

Exeter-Milligan Update: Honor Band Participants

Caitlin Murphy was selected to participate in the UNL Winter Festival for Winds and Percussion on the UNL campus from January 19-21. Students rehearsed as an honor band, with the UNL Wind Ensemble, and in small chamber groups. The students presented their chamber ensemble performances the evening of January 20 and performed in concert under the direction of Dr. Barber of UNL on January 21. Caitlin is a sophomore at Exeter-Milligan.

 

Senior Hannah Horne and junior Peytan Brandt from Exeter-Milligan recently traveled to Chadron State College to participate in the Chadron State College Honor Band.  Hannah played the baritione saxophone, and Peytan played a variety of percussion instruments for the concert.  They rehearsed February 5-6 and presented their concert the evening of February 6. They were directed by Dr. Michael Knight, Director of Bands for Chadron State College.

Exeter-Milligan junior Peytan Brandt was selected through audition to play the timpani in the Wayne State College Symphonic Band on Saturday, January 27.  Peytan rehearsed throughout the day under the direction of Mr. Brad Weber and performed in the 4:30 pm concert.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Algebra I

Mary Kay Pribyl’s algebra one class at EMHS is beginning their unit on inequalities.  The students are comparing and contrasting solving inequalities and equations.  In the photo, this group is explaining how they set up an inequality to solve the problem.  Shown is Clint Oldehoeft, Blake Meyer, and Natalie Staskal.

Exeter-Milligan Sixth Graders Sing National Anthem

Exeter-Milligan sixth graders sang the National Anthem and played with the pep band before the basketball game against McCool Junction.  Directed by Mrs. Angie Murphy, the students from the left are:  Taylor Pribyl, Katelin Warner, Savana Krupicka, Troy Kallhoff, Malorie Staskal,  Draven Payne and Devin Harrison.

Exeter-Milligan Boys Win Over McCool Junction

 Exeter-Milligan defeated McCool Junction at home 55-42 on Tuesday.

Exeter-Milligan Girls Defeat McCool Junction

 Exeter-Milligan with a win over McCool at home Tuesday night 40-30.  The girls play sub-districts in Malcom on Tuesday.

 And what do the girls do when they are done on the court?  Join the pep band, of course!

Senior Night for Exeter-Milligan Girls

Exeter-Milligan Coach Jackson Krejci cracks a smile as he listens to his senior team members, (l-r) Tara Mueller, Hannah Beethe and Kelsey Bigelow express their appreciation to the audience before their final home court match Tuesday night.  Just prior to speaking they honored their parents for the support they have given them over the years.
