Exeter Pack 218 Scouts Attend Webelos Camp

Four Webelos Scouts from Exeter Pack 218 along with their parents stayed at Camp Cornhusker from July 7 – 10 for Webelos Camp.

Despite the hot weather, the scouts, Clint Oldehoeft, Blake Meyer, Braden Capek and Ben Bartu enjoyed participating in a number of activities.  They earned their Readyman badge, worked on their Aquanaut badge, took rowboats out on the lake, shot bb guns and did archery.

The scouts slept in tents they helped put up, did a lot of hiking and performed two skits, one of which was an original the boys helped create.  The boys did two leather craft projects and practiced their knife skills.  They also worked on learning the Boy Scout Law, Oath and Promise.

Parents attending were Cubmaster Leesa Bartu, Den Leader Carol Capek, Heather Meyer and Jason Oldehoeft.

Generations Bank Adds Employee in Loan Department

Robert Elznic Joins Generations Bank

Exeter, NE, July 1, 2013: 

Generations Bank in Exeter, Nebraska recently announced the addition of Robert Elzinc to the bank’s lending staff.  Elznic’s emphasis will be working with agricultural production and agricultural real estate loans.  In addition, Elznic will also be working with commercial, consumer, and residential real estate loans.   

A native of Geneva, Nebraska, Elznic has a spent most of his career as a lender in Nebraska and Kansas.  Bob earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Education and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.  Elzinc also attended the Graduate Schools of Banking in Boulder Colorado.

Bob and his wife Barb who is a native of Hebron, Nebraska, will be relocating to the area from Coffeyville, Kansas.  The Elznic's have two grown children and six grandchildren.  Bob has been active in his communities, serving in many leadership roles including School Board, Rotary and the Chamber of Commerce.

Exeter Fun Days a Success

Despite some much needed rain on Friday and Saturday, Exeter Fun Days went off without a hitch.

Friday night the softball tournament began and just as the sky opened up, so did the garage sales.  Also on Friday night, perennial favorite karaoke was held downtown at John E’s.

Saturday morning started bright and early with the Exeter Chamber of Commerce waffle feed at the Legion.  Also inside and outside the Legion were craft show vendors.  

At 8 a.m. the shotgun start at the Junk in the Trunk was held downtown.  Everyone enjoyed shopping in the flea market atmosphere at this first annual event.  The softball tournament began again and the Bullhead tournament started at the fire hall.

Over the lunch hour, Boy Scout Troop 270 from Friend held a lunch stand at the ball field.  Downtown, there were kids fun stations, including glitter tattoos and sand art.  Bingo was also held at the Legion during the afternoon. There was free swimming and treats at the pool on Saturday and Sunday.

The Kid and Pet Parade was held at 5 p.m. downtown and the participants walked a block and then were announced as they entered the street dance area.  The Exeter Volunteer Fire Department held their annual BBQ serving pork sandwiches, hot dogs and chicken.  Also available in the street dance area were a dunk tank and a bounce house (sponsored by Perennial Public Power District).  Check in for the Bullhead tournament was held during the street dance.

Before the entertainment began, Exeter Chamber of Commerce President John Graham presented the Exeter Fun Days Citizen of the Year award.  This was the first year the award has been given.  Members of the Chamber nominated citizens who have made a difference in the community of Exeter and then voted on the winner.  The first winner of the Exeter Fun Days Citizen of the Year award was Erma Adamson.

Adamson spends hours each week picking up trash throughout the community.  She has also donated a number of very attractive trash receptacles in the downtown area.  She is always working hard to make sure the community looks great.

After the presentation, Rusty Nichol performed at the street dance followed by Who’s Bill Anyway.

Soccer Sign Ups

Geneva Activity & Education Director Valerie Turner has reminded us that soccer sign ups for youth are due by July 26th.  Teams are forming now. It is $30 per child to join a team. Volunteer coaches are needed.  If you need a release form please contact gaed@cityofgeneva.org
Games start August 17th.

Exeter 14 & Under Team Takes 4th at State at Softball

The Exeter Eagles ended their softball season on June 30^th at Class D State Softball in Grand Island.  The girls fought hard throughout the tournament and went 4-2 at state.  They played Louisville, Syracuse (twice), Verdigre, Grand Island Illusion’s Gold, and Auburn.  The season record for the Exeter Eagles was 18-6.  Exeter played in the FunFrAll league that consisted of Exeter, York, Dorchester, Meridian, Wilber 1, and Wilber 2.  The league tournament was June 24-27 in Dorchester.  They had to play Meridian twice on the 27^th in order to win the tournament.  The girls pulled through and brought home the victories! The Exeter Eagles 14 and Under softball team had a very successful season!
