EM holds Spring concert

The Exeter-Milligan music department held their 7 – 12 Spring Concert on Monday, April 17 in the Exeter gym.  The concert was a dress rehearsal for their district music contest Thursday and Friday.

The evening began with the junior high choir singing “Three Quotes by Mark Twain,” and “Firefly” under the direction of Mr. Mark Perez.  They were accompanied by Mrs. Angie Murphy.

The junior high also accompanied themselves on the Ukuleles when they played and sang “Let It Be,” and “Riptide.”

Several small groups performed the pieces they will play at district contest on Thursday including the large brass choir who played “Deep Six.”  The clarinet choir performed “Dana Nobis Pacem,” and the flute choir were accompanied by Murphy for “Two Larks.”

The final small group of the evening was the saxophone choir who performed “Cantina Band” by composer John Williams from the “Star Wars” series.

The 7 – 12 concert band performed three numbers including “The Secrets of McDougal’s Cave” which Perez explained also had Mark Twain connections.  Next they played “Nostalgia.”  Their final number, “The Great Locomotive Chase,” was the musical story of the Union Army attempting to commandeer a Confederate train during the Civil War.

Prior to the concert the Exeter-Milligan high school choir members performed their solos which included “Danny Boy” sung by Chase Vnoucek, Dravin Birkes who sang “I Gave My Love a Cherry,” and Morgan White who executed “He’s Gone Away.”

The small groups and soloists will compete at the district contest in Sutton on Thursday and the concert band will perform on Friday.
