Local Scout Units Honored by Cornhusker Council

Several local Scout units and individual leaders were recognized on Friday evening by the Cornhusker Council of the Boy Scouts of America for their service both to their units and to promote scouting.
 
Friday evenings Cornhusker Council Annual Recognition Dinner included a presentation Best of Council Unit Marketing Award to Exeter Cub Scout Pack 218 chartered by the Exeter American Legion.  Also, Boy Scout Troop 270 of Friend was awarded the Best of Prairie Winds District, Unit Marketing Excellence Award.
 
Six adult volunteers were also honored for their years of dedication to the program with the Silver Beaver award.  Locally, Cynthia Cassel, Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 270 of Friend was awarded the Silver Beaver.  In addition to her years of service to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturing Crew, Cassel is very involved in her church and also is a member of the Friend Historical Society.  She has sewn and designed costumes for the Friend High School one act play, coached and judged speech and debate events and has developed numerous fundraisers for Boy Scout Troop 270. She coordinates and accompanies the troop on high adventure trips each summer as well as treks to Camp Cornhusker and other camping locations each year.
 
During the evening the Cornhusker Council recognized youth as well as adults who have excelled in following the Scout Law and Oath and provide leadership in their units and in their communities.
