Obituary Erma Jean Rouch

Erma Jean (Meradith) Rouch, Plattsmouth, Neb., died Friday (2/26/10). Born November 22, 1918.

Preceded in death by husband, Frank Duain Rouch; parents, Earl and Mamie (Schenck) Meradith; brothers Jay and Max Meradith ; sister Merna Bailey. Survived by sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Marvin Stahr, York, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, James and Donna Rouch, Beaver Lake, Neb.; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Don Wright, Lincoln, Nebraska; daughter, Kathryn Rouch, Beaver Lake, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Helen Rouch, Lincoln, Neb.; former daughter-in-law, Susan Rouch, Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Ben and Robert Rouch, Omaha, Neb., Kristin Reiter, Nathan Rouch and Joanna Rouch, Lincoln, Neb.; Elizabeth Dworak, Gretna Neb.; David Wright, Boston, Mass. and Aaron Rouch, Camp Lejeune, N.C.; eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation 1 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday (3/2/10), Farmer Funeral Home, Exeter, Neb. Funeral service 11 a.m., Wednesday (3/3/10) First United Methodist Church, 701 Main Street, Plattsmouth, NE. Visitation with family at 9:30 a.m. at church prior to service. Interment 4 p.m., (3/3/10) Greenwood Cemetery, York, Neb. Memorials to First United Methodist Church, Plattsmouth, Neb. or Exeter, Neb. Farmer Funeral Home, Exeter, Neb. in charge of arrangements.

EXETER COMMUNITY CALENDAR

The Exeter Village Board will meet on Wednesday, February 8th at 7 p.m.

Thinking about working on your senior's scrapbook? Take the opportunity on Friday, February 10th at a FREE open scrapbook crop at the Exeter site cafeteria. Bring a snack to share with the group. The event goes from 5 pm to midnight - come and go! Leesa Bartu will be there with Timberwolf scrapbook supplies along with scrapbook tools to use (a portion of the profits from the sale of Timberwolf scrapbook supplies will be donated to the Exeter-Milligan Booster club).

The Exeter Senior Center will have their lunch bunch on Tuesday, February 14th at noon. They will have a foot clinic starting at 9 am, lunch at noon serving oven fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and will play Valentine Bingo following the meal.

Exeter-Milligan School will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, February 15th.

The Exeter Cub Scout Pack 218 will hold their Blue and Gold Banquet and Pinewood Derby on Sunday, February 19th.

The Exeter Senior Center will have their lunch bunch on Tuesday, February 21 at noon. They will be serving Ham Loaf, mashed sweet potatoes and creamed peas.

The Exeter Senior Center will have their birthday and anniversary coffee on Wednesday, February 22nd starting at 9 am. There will also be blood pressure checks available.

The Exeter Legion Auxiliary #218 will hold it's Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Sunday, February 26 at the Legion Hall in Exeter, NE. They will be serving Spaghetti w/homemade meat sauce, buttered corn, dinner salad w/homemade dressings, garlic bread and ice cream sundaes from 11:00 - 1:00 for a free will offering.

The Exeter Senior Center will have their lunch bunch on Tuesday, February 28 at noon. They will be serving Wing Dings, hash brown casserole and green beans.

Exeter-Milligan School will dismiss at 1:30 pm on Thursday, March 1st and there will be no school on Friday, March 2nd.

The Exeter Chamber of Commerce will host their Easter Egg Hunt at the Exeter school on Saturday, March 24th at 1:00 pm.

The Exeter K-6 Spring Concert will be on Tuesday, March 27th in Milligan at 7:00 pm.

Village Board Notes - December 7

The Exeter Village Board appointed a street superintendent and reappointed Alan Michl as the Chairman of the Board during their meeting on Wednesday evening.

Tom Krueger, a JEO employee, was named the street superintendent and spent some time during the meeting clarifying his responsibilities to the board. He will be assisting the village with the one and six year plan and will assist the clerk in filing the proper reports to the State for funding.

During the discussion with Krueger the board added several blocks of paving to the six year road plan. Discussion with those in attendance noted that the last paving project in Exeter was in 2003 and that there are just a few blocks left to pave in town. Unfortunately, Chairman Alan Michl noted that "You have to have about six blocks to pave for someone to come and do the project."

Ordinance 568 was approved by the board which closes one block of Tecumseh on the west edge of Exeter. According to Village Clerk Becky Erdkamp the street was platted but never opened and the parties adjacent to the street requested that it be closed.

Village Maintenance Supervisor John Mueller noted that he had requested bids from several companies for the Lift Station roof. He only received one from Magnum out of Fremont. He noted that they had done excellent work at the fire hall and on the village office. They also gave a bid to cover the windows at the fire hall with metal and do some other repairs. The board approved hiring Magnum for both projects.

Mueller also reported the bids on the pool repair were between $3267 and $8,000 with the board choosing to hire Christensen at the lower cost. Mueller noted that there are new ADA regulations for swimming pools and he is consulting JEO about complying with them.

Mueller informed the board that the system of notification for issues with the water tower, wells and lift station are currently communicated through phone lines at a cost of about $150.00/month. There are issues with the phone lines at times and the more reliable option is one using radio frequency. Mueller wanted to make the board aware that the cost to change to the radio frequency would be around $30,000. The board took no action.

Vice-Chairman Tim Wilbeck asked about contacting Perennial about street lights that are out. Village Clerk Erdkamp noted that she had faxed a list to Perennial earlier in the day and there was discussion on both updating the holiday decorations attached to the street lights and repainting or replacing the poles.

Under the Marshall's report, Chairman Michl noted that a new officer will be working with Friend and Exeter this week.

Village Clerk Erdkamp reported that the sales tax for September was $7643.94 and the auditors will be in the office next week.

Accepted Items at the Exeter Recycling Trailer

Corrugated cardboard: All boxes or packing boxes with a wavy core. Examples: Grocery boxes, clean pizza boxes. Please no egg cartons, cereal boxes, 12 pack holders
Magazines: all types of magazines are accepted. Preparations: Remove any plastic wrapped covers or sleeves. No phone books
Newspapers: Daily, Sunday, or weekly publications Preparations: no sorting of colored or slick pages is needed. Do not include plastic sleeves.
Aluminum cans: Pop, beer, sports drinks, some pet food containers. Pleases no pie tins or aluminum foil. Preparations: rinse (Optional- remove pull tabs and save for Exeter Woman’s Club)
Tin Cans: These are most of the canned goods on your pantry shelves. Preparations: Rinse, labels can be left on. Flatten gallon or large cans .
#2 Plastic (HDPE) This is a harder colored or white plastic is not clear. Examples: milk and water jugs, laundry detergents, shampoo, coffee, some yogurt, margarine & cottage cheese containers. Check the bottom number to be sure Preparations: rinse and discard lids, crush large containers
#1 Plastic (PETE) All plastic bottles that contain liquids consumed by humans are packaged in clear or colored # 1 PETE plastic bottles. Some other food such as catsup and salad dressing may also be this type but you must check the bottom number to be sure. Examples: pop, cranberry juice, sports drinks, liquor Preparations: rinse and discard lids
What NOT to do! Please do not use this trailer as your garbage dump! Items must be clean and properly sorted or the recycling company will not accept the items. DO NOT throw in bags, boxes, string or other “holders” along with the recycling items.
