Twelve 5th & 6th grade Exeter-Milligan band students participated in the Bruning-Davenport band contest on Saturday, March 19. Students receiving "1" ratings (superior) were Ashley
Benorden, clarinet solo; Trystan Brandt, trumpet solo; Hannah Horne, piano solo; Samantha Horne, French horn solo & piano solo; Lucy Murphy, alto sax solo; Patrick Murphy, trombone solo & piano solo; Haylee Sheffield, French horn solo & piano solo and Ella Wilkins, flute solo. Students receiving "1-" ratings were Vicki Androyna, alto sax solo and Tara Mueller, flute solo. Students receiving "2+" (excellent) ratings were Hannah Horne, alto sax solo and the clarinet duet made up of Janey Erdkamp and Kaitlyn Vavra. Ella WIlkins received a "2" rating on her piano solo.

It was all about recycling on Tuesday evening as Exeter-Milligan elementary students educated their audience about going green.

 

Their "Get Goin' Green" program directed by Mrs. Angie Murphy shared about recycling and each person's responsibility in caring for the earth.

 

For the 69th year in a row the Exeter Feeders and Breeders held their annual banquet.  This year the event was held on Saturday evening at the Milligan Auditorium.

Each year the Feeders and Breeders honors an individual who has made a significant contribution to the agriculture community. 

This year Alan Songster of rural Exeter was honored.  Songster has been involved in agriculture and working cattle since his childhood and is now working with the next generation of his family in their farming operation.

During his acceptance speech Songster recognized the support of his wife Noreen, who shared the stage with him, along with that of his three children and their spouses and families.

 

Senior Heather Pribyl was chosen as a First Team All State honoree in the Class D-1 Omaha World Herald selections.

Freshman Nolan White and Senior Zach Jensen were both chosen for honorable mentions in the Omaha World-Herald Class D-1 team.

 

Sunday afternoon Exeter Pack 218 crossed over three boys from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts at the Exeter American Legion.

Eric Olsen, Joey Bartu and Travis Gilliam all achieved the highest award in Cub Scouts, the arrow of light, and were ready to enter Boy Scouts.

 

The Fillmore County Hospital project is nearing completion and scheduled to open on May 1, 2012.

 

Virginia Louise Krasser died March 31, 2011.  She was born January 29, 1926 at Guthrie County, Iowa. 

 

Exeter-Milligan Update: Smart Cookies

 

The "Smart Cookies" reading group is proud to announce....their hard word wall is empty!  Each time these "smart cookies" read a story, errors are put on their word wall to practice.  They have no hard words to practice right now and have been doing an amazing job reading stories such as "Arf the Shark" and "Walter's Team Wins".  Smart Cookies from left to right; Knox Becker, Layne Zelenka, Avery Hankins, Reed Wince, and William Lock.

 

American Red Cross Blood Drive in Exeter a Success

 

Exeter’s Blooddrive that was held on Monday, Feb. 22 at the Legion Hall was a success. There were 43 whole blood units and 5 power red units collected for a total of 53 units, eight over the goal.

There were three deferrals and four no shows. Since these drives don’t take walk ins unless there is an opening, it’s important to call to tell the coordinator as soon as possible if the donor is ill or unable to attend. This allows the coordinator to sign up another donor on the Red Cross site.

 

Providing delicious sandwiches and cookies were the St. Stephens Altar Society members. Meg Becker, chairman, manned the canteen and also helped those registering. Marilyn Anderson was in charge of the temperature check. Donating blood is always important but especially this time of year as many drives were cancelled because of the weather and covid. Reaching a donation goal were: Suzanne Keenan 1 gallon, Joni Harre 3 gallon, Warren Hall 7 gallon, Don Bristol and Alan Songster 11 gallon, and Kevin Stuckey 18 gallons.

Exeter-Milligan Band Members Participate in All State Band

 

Exeter-Milligan students Clint Oldehoeft, Kole Svec, Troy Kallhoff, and Braden Capek participated in the Nebraska Class D All-State Band in Palmer on Saturday, March 20. Their conductor was Mr. Jim Kucera. Kole received a medal as the 3rd clarinet, Troy as the 4th French horn, and Braden as the timpani player.

Spanish 2 students Jackson Beethe, Clint Oldehoeft, Cammie Harrison and Natalie Staskal (in picture) worked together to re-enact the legend "Los Novios" which is the story of a princess and a warrior who were transformed into volcanoes. The students read the legend, wrote their own script and then performed their play.  These activities helped students to gain knowledge and understanding of the Mexican culture and learn about the geography of Mexico City.
