Exeter Has Successful Bloodmobile

Celebrating their own birthday inspired twins Ashley and Meghan Miller to donated blood on their 17^th birthday.

The Exeter-Milligan juniors donated blood for the first time at the Exeter Bloodmobile on February 24^th

According to Doris Hall, the Exeter Bloodmobile coordinator, “We did have a very good turnout. Everything worked out good that day.”

“We beat our quota by five pints.”  With 37 pints of blood the Exeter Red Cross Bloodmobile was deemed a success.  The ladies from the United Church of Christ served the lunch and manned the kitchen.

Greeting donors were Erma Adamson, Evelyn Michl and Elva McBride.  Escorting donors were Ginny Adams, Carol Shaffer and Kathleen Wilbeck.  Those who assisted in the loading and unloading of equipment were Alva Smith, Sterling Dyer, Dan Manwarren,  and Adam Erdkamp.

Unfortunately the donor list and donor records with gallon pin information were not available at the time.  The next American Red Cross Bloodmobile in the area will be on April 27^th in Fairmont.

Jump Rope For Heart at Exeter-Milligan

The Exeter-Milligan gymnasium was host to this year’s jump rope for heart event.  Physical Education teacher Mrs. Darcy White holds the event every other year to get the elementary students moving.  This year she brought her jock jam music to keep the ropes and the students moving.  The elementary students at the Exeter site, (kindergarten, first and second graders) were mentored by Exeter-Milligan high school students who spent their period teaching the kids how to jump rope and use the ropes for different exercises.  The students are still accepting donations for the American Heart Association event, ”It takes a Heart to be a Hero.”

Exeter-Milligan Update: Kindergarten

Mrs. Judy Kassik's Exeter-Milligan Kindergarten students have been learning to tell time to the hour. They have learned that the hands on the clock represent hours and minutes. The minute hand has to go all the way around the clock to make one hour.  Pictured is the kindergarten class with their very own clocks.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Social Science Classes

Mr. Brian Murphy’s Social Science Classes at Exeter-Milligan have been covering a wide variety of topics this semester.  Currently, the Post World War II History class is just getting started with a unit covering the 1980s.  The class spends a great deal of time discussing current events and how earlier events have influenced our world today.  Post World War II History looks at events from both world and American perspectives.  The American History class recently completed a chapter on the early Cold War.  We are now starting a unit on 1950s culture.  World History is just completing World War I.  During class discussions, an emphasis is placed on perspectives of other nations and how these influence major events that follow.

Exeter-Milligan Kindergarten Registration Monday Night

If you anticipate enrolling your child in kindergarten at Exeter-Milligan the fall of 2012, please plan to attend our Kindergarten registration on Monday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m at the Exeter site cafeteria.  During this time, Mrs. Laura Kroll, elementary principal, will help complete the necessary paperwork for your child’s enrollment into kindergarten.  Mr. Paul Sheffield, superintendent, and Mrs. Judy Kassik, kindergarten teacher, will be available to field questions people may have. Please note, according to the recently adopted state law, children must be 5 years of age as of July 31. As provided in school policy, the Exeter-Milligan Public Schools may admit a child to kindergarten that will reach the age of 5 years on or after August 1 and on or before October 15 based on certain guidelines. "Helping to GROW Entrepreneurship Statewide: The Story of GROW Nebraska"

The public is invited to attend an afternoon presentation about GROW Nebraska™ by Erin Malzer on March 14^th in Milligan. She will explain how small businesses can receive coaching, product consultation and market access for Nebraska products. GROW Nebraska™ is an Entrepreneurial Service Organization, which is membership-based and driven. GROW Nebraska’s™ goal is to connect entrepreneurs and small businesses to the world marketplace. The event will take place at 1:00 p.m. at Evening With Friends Restaurant located at 524 Main Street in Milligan, NE.

The Fillmore County Development Corporation is hosting the program. This program is in conjunction with the Southeast Nebraska Resource Network (SERN). SERN is a group of development resource and service providers interested in the betterment of Southeast Nebraska. The SERN business meeting will take place from 10:00 a.m. – Noon prior to the event.

SERN includes the following Nebraska Counties and their municipalities: Butler, Cass, Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Lancaster, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Polk, Richardson, Saline, Saunders, Seward, Thayer, and York.

Exeter-Milligan Students participate in Fillmore County Spelling Bee

Eight Exeter-Milligan students participated in the Fillmore County Spelling Bee this year.  The Junior High students below are from the left, Janey Due, Elliot Erdkamp, Samantha Horne and Ashley Benorden who placed third.  Fifth and sixth grade participants are pictured from the left Mitchell Manning, Clarissa Mounce, who placed second, Kaitlyn Vavra, who placed third and Josie Kresak.

Exeter Pack 218 Scouts Crossover

 

 Webelos II Scouts in Pack 218 are pictured with their parents and the members of the Order of the Arrow who conducted their crossover ceremony.  They are from the left Jacob Noel (Akela), Micah Gill (Nutiket), Katie Babula, John Babula, Johnny Babula, Roger Brandt, Peytan Brandt, Dianne Brandt, Brandon Dyer (Medicine Man) and Brandon Yoder (Guide).

On Sunday, February 19th, Exeter Pack 218 held the crossover ceremony for the  two members of their Webelos II den.

 

Peytan Brandt and Johnny Babula both achieved the highest rank in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light.

 

To obtain the arrow of light the scouts must earn activity pins in physical skills, mental skills, technology and outdoor skills.  The scouts must also know the Boy Scout Law and Oath and participate in two Boy Scout activites.

 

After Cubmaster Leesa Bartu spoke on the meaning of the arrow of light members of the Cornhusker Council Prairie Winds District Order of the Arrow assisted the boys in crossing over to Boy Scouts. 

 

Participants in the crossover ceremony were the Nutiket, the Guard, (Micah Gill) Kichkinet, the Guide (Brandon Yoder), Medicine Man Meteu (Brandon Dyer), Akela, the Mighty Chief (Jacob Noel) welcomed the Cub Scouts and examined their arrow which records their record in cub scouts. Both were found to be worthy and were welcomed into the tribe of Boy Scouts.

Exeter-Milligan Timberwolves fall by one point

The Exeter-Milligan Lady Timberwolves fought a hard battle and were ahead by one point with eight seconds left in the quarter finals state tournament game against the Friend Bulldogs.  Unfortunately Friend sunk a basket in those last eight seconds leaving the final score 37-36 with the Timberwolves facing no time left and a loss.
