Obituary: Camille Kuska

Camille M. Kuska, 92, a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa died on Wednesday, July
15, 2009 at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport, Iowa.
Her funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Asbury United
Methodist Church in Bettendorf. An additional funeral service was held in Exeter at the
Farmer Funeral Home on Monday, July 20, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Following services in
Exeter, Camille was laid to rest in the Bohemian National Cemetery in Milligan.

Camille was born June 19, 1917 in Cody, Wyoming. Upon the death of her
mother in 1918, Camille was raised by her maternal grandmother, Lucy McDougal and
her aunt, Mary McDougal in Neligh, Nebraska. Camille attended the University of
Nebraska and taught school in Orchard, Nebraska in earlier years. On June 1, 1940, she
was united in marriage to Donald E. Kuska in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Camille was an active member of the Asbury United Methodist Church where she
was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women. She volunteered for
many activities at Asbury over the years and was always there to help when needed.

She & Don loved to travel and have visited all 50 states including two trips to
Alaska. They had also visited many provinces in Canada and visited Europe as well.
Camille was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who enjoyed taking good
care of her home. She loved to play bridge and was a member of several bridge clubs.
She was also a member of the “Red-Hatter’s” who met monthly. Camille loved her many
friends and greatly enjoyed attending the Quad-City Symphony Orchestra performances
in Augustana College.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Don; her daughter, Cindy
Buchman of Bettendorf, Iowa, her grandchildren Dominick Marcott, Danielle Potenzo-
Temple & her husband, Brian, Aaron Buchman & his wife, Heather and Jennifer
Buchman; her great-grandchildren, Avery Temple and Kira Marcott; and many other
relatives and wonderful friends.

Her daughter, Sherry Potenzo preceded her in death in 1989.

Exeter Fun Days - A Whole Lot of FUN!!

Midnight Magic featuring Donnie Mason (of Exeter) was the headliner band at the Exeter Volunteer Fire Department Street Dance.

Magician Adam White entertained the kids and parents alike with his comedic magic show Saturday at the street dance.

Softball, snow cones, swimming and a street dance all added up to a great day in Exeter on Saturday.

The softball tournament started Saturday morning and continued through Sunday with teams from all over the area competing.

The Exeter Aquatic Center had snow cones at the pool on Saturday afternoon and the Exeter Chamber of Commerce passed out $2.00 gift certificates to be used at the pool to each child entering the first hour. Despite the cooler temperatures the snow cones were a hit.

Raffle tickets for donated baskets to benefit the slide fund were available at the pool in the afternoon and were also displayed at the street dance. The Exeter Chamber of Commerce sponsored the raffle. The baskets were raffled off at 8:15 p.m. Winners and donaters were:

The Village of Exeter donated a 2010 family pool pass to the new Aquatic Center and Paul and Becky Erdkamp donated a basket with pool items - Won by Hope Androyna.

Vickie Ozenbaugh donated a basket on behalf of the post office stuffed with stamps, envelopes and other goodies and LaVonne Guthrie's name was drawn.

Greg's Market donated a BBQ basket with frozen burgers, buns, chips and condiments and it was won by Annette Gloystein.

Leesa Bartu Graphic Design donated two custom Exeter-Milligan photo frames with a band and a girls basketball picture in them. Caleb Horne won these items.

Bill and Terri Volkmer donated four family passes to their annual pumpkin painting event in the fall. Also included are a custom painted pumpkin for the family. Winners were Hope Androyna, Troy Kalhoff, Dean Bartu and Ben Horne.

First National Bank in Exeter also donated a 2010 family pool pass which included beach towels, sunscreen and a nice pool bag. This prize was won by Melanie Papik.

Alan and Noreen Songster donated two $25 chamber bucks certificates to be raffled off and Hope Androyna won as well as Kay Due.

Leesa Bartu donated a variety of home canned goods included several jellies, salsa and tomato juice. LaVonne Guthrie won this basket.

Just before the baskets were raffled off the Exeter Chamber of Commerce sponsored a kiddie parade. There were twelve participants. From pedal tractors, to bikes and buggies the parade was adorable and everyone loved the Shetland pony who brought up the rear!

The fireman served a very nice supper of hot dogs, grilled chicken breasts, or beef sandwiches for the crowd. Then the band started playing. Midnight Magic had a great mix of oldies, country and rock to please everyone.

Death Notice, Colby Chapman

Colby Chapman of Colorado Springs, CO passed away July 4th at the age of 38. He is the son of Gerald and Peg Chapman of Cayon City, CO. Burial was at Fort Morgan National Cemetary.

Kuska, Camille M. Age 92 Bettendorf, Iowa died Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Davenport.
She was married to Don Kuska of Bettendorf, IA. One daughter, Cindy Buchman of Bettendorf, IA with five Grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Monday, July 20th. Visitation prior to funeral from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home Exeter, NE.

Obituary for Roger Neeman

Roger Walter Neemann was born to Edwin and Emma (Wohlers) Neemann February 25th, 1944 in Tecumseh, Nebraska. He was the youngest of three boys. Roger, who was called Wally throughout his life, grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska and attended Lincoln Public Schools.

His father died in May 1957, leaving his mother to raise three sons.

In 1959 Wally and his mother moved to Friend, Nebraska when she married Leo Kasl, who owned a farm two miles south of Friend.

Wally attended Friend Public School until the age of seventeen when he married Faye Conner on September 11, 1961 and they lived in Lincoln, Nebraska for the next twenty years.

To this union four daughters were born: Lori Lea, Angela Dee, Shellie Ann and Sherri Lynn. In 1981 Wally, Faye and their daughters moved to Exeter, Nebraska and purchased a bar, and named it Gator's Pub, getting the nickname "Gator" for the rest of his life. They owned the bar together for 28 years.

One by one Gator and Faye's daughters grew up and married and gave them 11 grandchildren.

Gator's survivors include: Wife of 47 years Faye Neemann. Daughters and Sons-in-law; Lori and Steve Becker of Exeter, Angie and Jeff Hansen of Cordova, Shellie and Kent Olsen of Beaver Crossing and Sherri and Travis Due of Cordova. Grandchildren; Roger, Connor, Crystal and James Becker all of Exeter. AJ and wife Brittany Hansen, Chevy Hansen, all of Cordova. Brayden, Eric, Emma Olsen of Beaver Crossing. Macy and Tyler Due of Cordova. Aunt: Lorraine McGaugh, Cook, NE. Uncle: Walter Wohlers, Banning, CA. Sisters-in-law and Brothers-in-law: Ruth Ekeler, Exeter. Ernestine and Gene Felton, Cathlament, WA., Janice and Norm Marfice, Omaha., Miles (Dick) Snell, Seattle, WA. , Jay and Jo Woodward, Omaha., Dale and Kay Miller, Peoria, AZ. Bob and Marty Mitchell, Edison, NE., Ron Hughes, Lincoln, Annabelle Neemann, Lincoln. Many nieces and nephews and cousins.

Gator was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, step-father Leo Kasl, brothers Don and Arwin Neemann, brothers-in-law Willy Ekeler and Ray Snell, and sister-in-law Arlene Snell.

Memorial services will be conducted from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova, Nebraska on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., with JA Welsh and Rev. Paul Konig officiating. Private family graveside will be held at the Exeter Cemetery at a later time.

Spring Academic All-State Exeter-Milligan Students

The Nebraska School Activities Association recently released the Spring 2009 Academic All-Star Award Recipients.

To be nomiated as an Academic All-Star, the student must meet the following leadership and scholarship criteria.
-A nominated student must be a varsity player or organizational leader who has played a significant role on the team or in the organizational activity during the seasons for which nominations are accepted.
-A nominated student must have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average, in all curricular subjects, of 93 percent or 3.7 on a 4.0-point scale or the equivalent.
-NSAA high schools or their cooperative sponsorship may nominate a maxiumu of two students per NSAA activity program.

Exeter Aquatic Center adds additional services

The Exeter Village Board voted Tuesday night to offer private parties at the new aquatic center for a cost of just $35.00 per hour. Anyone interested in hosting a party should contact Manager Jackie Miller for available times and dates.

Also announced by the board are the official dates for swimming lessons this summer. The lessons will be offered July 20 - 31 at scheduled times throughout the day. Lessons will be $20.00 per child and reservations can be made by contacting Jackie Miller at the pool or through the Village Office. Shelli Mueller will be conducting the Red Cross approved lessons.

Exeter-Milligan graduate honored with two national scholarships

Kayla Becker, a 2009 graduate of Exeter-Milligan school, recently received word that she had been selected for two national scholarships.

She was notified that she will be receiving the Knights of Columbus Anthony J. LaBella Endowed Scholarship which is a $1500 scholarship, renewable yearly.

Kayla also learned that she had been selected to receive the Military Ex-Prisoners of War Foundation $2000.00 scholarship which is also renewable yearly.

Kayla will be a freshman at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, MN in the fall, majoring in Psychology.

Another successful Blood Drive

The Bloodmobile in Exeter on Friday, June 26th collected 28 pints of blood for the American Red Cross.

The event, coordinated by Doris Hall and Ruth Ekeler, had 35 donors come with six deferrals and one non productive.

The ladies from the United Church of Christ in Exeter provided the lunch with Norm Yound, Sterling Dyer, Alva Smith and Butch Jansen serving as the unloaders. In the canteen were Elva McBride, Barb Becker and Dianne Hanson.

Mary Wince donated orange juice, Erma Adamson donated the cups, the First National Bank in Exeter donated napkins and the Exeter Care Center donated goodie bags and bottled water. Donating cookies were Cindy Carrigan, Pat Schoenholz, Eyvonne Johnson and Doris Hall.

Several donors reached milestones in their donations including Lynn Strate who earned a one gallon pin. Two gallon pins were earned by David Bristol, Anita Mueller and Kurt Kleinschmidt. Lois Thomsen received her four gallon pin.

Assisting as greeters were Bonnie Cudaback, Marci Manwarren and Tess Moor. Escorts for the afternoon event were Sharon Dyer, Frances Becwar and Evelyn Michl.

The next area blood drive will be held in Fairmont on Friday, August 28th noon to 5:30 p.m.
