Exeter Milligan Elementary Program

Mrs. Murphy directs the sixth grade band.

Exeter-Milligan Kindergarten, First and Second Graders rock out when singing We Will Jingle" at their Christmas program.
The Exeter-Milligan fourth grade Elves finished their Santa's Elves number in style.

The Exeter-Milligan third graders decorated their own trees to accompany their singing of "O Christmas Tree."

The Exeter-Milligan Elementary Spent over an hour entertaining the large crowd at their Christmas Program Tuesday evening under the direction of Mrs. Angie Murphy.

The fifth grade band opened the evening with "Christmas Fun" a medley of bits of familiar holiday tunes.  The sixth grade band performed "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" before the fifth and sixth graders to perform two numbers including "Christmas Cheer" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."

Taking the stage were the Kindergarten, first and second graders who stomped their way through "We Will Jingle."  The Kindergarten and first graders performed "Christmas is Coming" and "Decorate the Tree" together before the second graders sang "Somewhere in My Memory" and "Santa Claus Is On His Way."

Together the three younger grades sang "Santa Surprise!" and "Must Be Santa" where they recognized some of Santa's special features.

The sixth grade class were accompanied by the third, fourth and fifth graders to present the musical "This is Your Life, Santa Claus!" with announcer Travis Gilliam. The remake of the popular television show was hosted by Ralph Ledwards (also known as Patrick Murphy).

Together the group sang "Christmas On the Air" and after Santa (Eric Olsen) identified his elf, Marti, in the "mystery booth," the fourth grade along with Marti (played by Alexis Uldrich) sang "Santa's Elves."

Santa's next mystery guest was his tour guide Bridgette, played by Hannah Beethe, and together Santa, Ledwards, and Bridgette and the chorus sang about Santa's after Christmas vacation spot, "Christmas on the Isthmus of Panama." Santa also identified his sister (Vicki Androyna), his mother (Kelsey Bigelow) and his father (Seth Maxson).

The third grade class had each decorated their own giant Christmas trees which they displayed as they sang "O Christmas Tree" before Santa had to identify a few of his Hip-Hop Reindeer, Blitzen (Joey Bartu), Vixen (Hannah Horne) and Dasher (Janey Erdkamp).  Together, Santa's reindeer and the fifth grade reindeer sang "Hip-Hop Reindeer."

During the commercial break the fourth grade class played "Sleigh BAG" on their recorders before Act II started with Sally Lou (Kaitlyn Vavra), Cindy (Josie Hulse) and Sid (Claire Mounce). The three "children" Santa was able to identify just by their voices and their wish lists.  They gave Santa their written lists before singing "My Christmas List" with the chorus.

After Santa recalled the name of his elementary teacher, Mrs. Davenport (Tara Mueller) she directed the chorus of third, fourth, fifth and sixth graders in singing "Angels on the Midnight Clear" before joining Rudy, the tailor (Derek Axline) in singing "Santa Claus, Santa Claus" while trying to measure Santa for his ever growing larger red pants.

The final mystery guest for Santa, was Mrs. Santa (Katie Mounce). To end the evening the chorus sang "Decorate the Halls!" before the audience was dismissed to enjoy a Christmas Tea in the cafeteria sponsored by the Exeter-Milligan Booster Club.

Exeter-Milligan Update: Students Make Pinatas

MAKING PINATAS IN EXETER-MILLIGAN PUBLIC SCHOOLS
by Taylor Erdkamp & Megan Zwickl/Student Reporters

On December 2nd both Spanish classes at Exeter-Milligan High School started making miniature star pinatas. We learned how to create these by watching a video provided by Miss Elizabeth Rios, our Spanish teacher, and then following the multiple steps. First we started by covering a styrofoam ball with multiple strips of colored streamers, next we made metallic cones with tissue paper fringe to put on the ball. Then we put them together with toothpicks and finished them with decorative beads and confetti. We had fun making them and enjoy projects that we can use our hands. We plan to hang them throughout our Spanish classroom to decorate for the upcoming Holiday season.

Breast Cancer Survivor Chooses the Right Box

Exeter resident Patrice Ruhl choose the right box at a recent breast cancer fundraiser.“It was a very nice surprise. I was pretty much speechless,” explained Patrice Ruhl about a necklace she found in her box at a recent breast cancer fundraiser event.

She and most of the attendees purchased a black box for $10 at the registration table which was supposed to either include "socks or rocks." In other words the would be purchasing either a pair of white anklet socks with the pink breast cancer awareness ribbon or one lucky shopper would buy a necklace donated by York Jewelry valued at $500.

“Everyone opened their box at the same time and I realized that my box had something different in it and I pulled out a silver circle necklace with beautiful pink stones with varying shades of light to dark pink,” explained Ruhl.

Ruhl had been invited to the event by her friend Shari Michl who sponsored a table at the event. Ruhl thought that the event “For Boobs Only,” was in it’s second year. This year it was held at the Pour House in Friend.
What made the event particularly significant for Ruhl was the fact that she is a breast cancer survivor herself. She was diagnosed in 2000 and has now been cancer free for 11 years.

What surprised Ruhl most after her diagnosis was the many different types of breast cancer that exist, “I thought when you had breast cancer, you just had breast cancer. I learned there were so many variations.”
Ruhl is looking forward to wearing her new necklace of “rocks” and continues to support breast cancer research while celebrating her cancer free status.
