Exeter-Milligan FCCLA Attends District #4 Leadership Conference

   District #4 Leadership Conference “Find Your Spark with FCCLA.” was held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at Hastings Central Community College campus. In attendance were more than 260 FCCLA members coming from Doniphan-Trumbull, Bruning Davenport, Cross County, Fillmore Central, Sutton and Exeter-Milligan. Representing the Exeter-Milligan Chapter as a District #4 Officer was Kierra Papik. Kierra is the  Vice President of Recreation, Membership and STAR. Mrs. Mary Lou Vossler served as District #4 Adviser.

    Ricky Simmons was the keynote speaker this year. He talked to the members about his experience with drugs and addictions and how he managed to turn his life around. Breakout sessions included a tour of CCC campus, Set Me Free Project (human trafficking), essentials for working with children, Handwriting Analysis, importance of clear communication, domestic violence and how to recognize it, the consequences of risk taking behaviors. Other sessions included Laugh Yoga, FCCLA Kahoot, “The Challenges of Leading”, SPOT team information, STAR events, and How to Organize a Chapter Service Project. FCCLA members loved hearing about Ricky Simmons' life and the sessions. Overall, they had a great time during the 2022 District Leadership Conference.

FCS News-

Foods - Students have completed projects about a chosen culinary artist, and selected culture.  Pumpkins are being carved and seeds will be roasted in various flavors.  Our next big project will be planning and organizing a traditional Thanksgiving meal w/guests.

Interpersonal Relationships- Decision making skills, SMART goals, 4 directions of life, and conflict resolution have been our focus.

Senior Seminar- Skills of writing "Thank You" notes, answering interview questions, how to dress for an interview, decline a job or give your notice of when quitting your job have been our topics.  Previously, we reviewed relationships and dating violence.

FCS 7- Students are currently sewing on buttons and now sewing chef aprons and felt animals.  They have mastered the task of sewing on buttons.

Adult Living- Our focus has been on balancing family and work concerns along with dealing with family crises.  Focusing on the impact that unemployment, relocation, mental health concerns, alcohol and drug addiction, complusive gambling, depression, suicide, and criminal attack have on one's well-being.  This unit will lead the students into their homeless simulation, where they are sleeping outside in a box for an evening.

Child Development- Students are learning about the amazing human brain, creating neuron keychains, models of the brain out of clay.  They will soon begin to learn about the child psychologist who made an impact on a child's development.
