Olsen signs with Nebraska Wesleyan

Exeter-Milligan’s Emma Olsen made her decision this week to go from being a Timberwolf to a Prairie Wolf as she committed to play volleyball at Nebraska Wesleyan in Lincoln.

Olsen was first exposed to the NWU program at a volleyball camp when she was in the eighth grade.  “It was always a consideration.  I set up a visit and talked to some of the girls. . .toured the campus and after seeing how close knit the team was I decided I just really liked the environment.”

NWU Head Volleyball coach Rayna Cain is looking forward to working with Olsen, “Emma is a true leader and overall athletic.  As a setter, she has a strong foundation and tons of potential to run a 5-1 offense.  Emma has smooth hands and her fast paced tempo will match with our program.”

Cain plans to use Olsen as a setter and looks to start involving her this summer, “we have summer meets and camps for incoming players to engage with the upperclassmen.  We have leadership sessions to start developing the P-Wolf mindset in preparing for the fall.”

Exeter-Milligan head coach Madalynn Fousek feels that Olsen will be very successful as she moves on, “Being in a small school the students at Exeter-Milligan are involved in so many different activities for athletics, clubs, and academics which I believe prepare them for life after high school. Exeter-Milligan also has a strong, positive culture throughout our academics and athletics. Emma has been able to be a part of this and has a great mindset that will help her as she gets ready for her next journey in life.”

Olsen is looking at a pre-health major but isn’t solid on which direction she will go from there.

Fousek added that, “Emma's willingness to work hard, take criticism, and her ability to know what it takes to be successful will take her however far she wants to go in her athletic career. I have no worries that Emma will not be successful in her future career as she has proven to be reliable and a leader throughout her time here at Exeter-Milligan.”

Olsen hopes to stay in the setter position as Cain has indicated.  Fousek commented on Olsen’s “competitiveness and drive to get better. She is always willing to take on a new challenge and work hard to make herself and her teammates better. It has been a joy to watch Emma compete and watch her turn into a leader, and I know she will carry these skills with her to the next level.”
