Fifth Grade Update

By Madalynn Fousek, Exeter-Milligan Fifth Grade Instructor

The end of the 3rd quarter has provided a lot of new, fun challenges and has been keeping the 5th graders busy! We have been working hard and are continuing to learn new material and skills that have kept us on our toes. In math we have been working with equivalent fractions, reducing fractions, and the difference between prime and composite numbers. This has led us to creating arrays! Students found out that if numbers are prime there is only one possible array, but if numbers are composite there could be two or more different arrays. We were able to do a fun activity where I stated a number and they created as many arrays as possible and declared if it was prime or composite. They enjoyed being able to use manipulatives and get out of their desks for a while!
