Exeter-Milligan Update: Hoops for Heart

HOOPS FOR HEART EVENT AT EXETER-MILLIGAN PUBLIC SCHOOL A SUCCESS!
By Darcy White, Exeter-Milligan PE Instructor

On FEBRUARY 28, students at EXETER-MILLIGAN ELEMENTARY in MILLIGAN jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Hoops For Heart. The students raised more than $2,800 for the American Heart Association, which funds research, programs and education to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 4 killers.

“I’m so pleased with the success of this year’s event,” said Mrs. White, Hoops For Heart coordinator. “We all had a lot of fun, and the kids enjoyed learning about the importance of physical activity and how they can play a role in saving lives.  The kids went above and beyond with their efforts in fundraising.  I am very pleased with how excited the kids were to do this service and how hard the kids worked to raise money and awareness for the AHA!”

Hoops For Heart is a program that promotes physical activity and heart health through playing basketball. It is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators.
