Visitor in Town

Many may have seen the horse and buggy traveling through Exeter on Wednesday.  Lee the Horselogger is traveling from Montana to Boston one last time.

This is his fifth trip across the US by horse and buggy and quite possibly his last.  He takes a different route each time but impending blindness may stop his travels.

He and his horse (and a beaver) travel the byways and small highways enjoying every minute of a slower pace of travel.  He left Montana in August but got waylaid by some health issues for Jesse the horse.

The pair usually travels about 3 miles an hour up to 16 miles a day before finding a place to settle down.  A friend of a friend led him to his resting spot on Highway 6 in Exeter.

Lee grabbed a quick shower before heading to the Exeter-Milligan school to be show and tell for the elementary students.

EMF Football rallies to beat Sutton

The Bobcats traveled to Sutton on Friday night and decided to wait until the second half to turn up the heat.  Sutton got on the board first with 8:43 left in the first quarter capitalizing on an EMF fumble for six.

The Mustangs went to the air after the Bobcats turned the ball over on downs and caught one in the end zone making the score 0-12 then 0-14 after the completed the PAT.

Bobcats got on the board when AidanVavra punched the ball in for six and Mikey Bartu took the two point in for a score 8-14.

with 4:31 left in the half Sutton found the end zone making it 8-22.  The Bobcats got down to the 1 foot line but ran out of time before they could score.

Out of halftime the Mustangs took the kickoff to the house bringing the score to 8-30 and that's where the Mustang scoring stopped.

Bartu found the end zone with 8:03 left in the third 14-30 then with 2:45 left in the third making it 20 to 30.

With 11:19 left in the fourth quarter Mark Milton got loose and got six and the two point was completed making it 28-30.

With 8:10 left in the game Bartu capped off the scoring with six making it 34-30.  From there on out the Bobcat defense was tough forcing the Mustangs to turn over on downs.  With 1:22 left in the game Bartu plows through the Sutton defense and makes a pivotal first down allowing the Bobcats to run down the clock in victory formation.

Exeter Water Tower Project Started

The Exeter water tower has sported the same paint scheme since the late 1990's but that is about to change.

The tower was built in 1928  and "was erected, with a tank within a tank.  The inner tank was to furnish water to the sprinkler system in the tag factory in case of fire," according to the Exeter history book, They Called in Exeter.

It was originally silver with black lettering on it when it was built in 1928 but was repainted to its current white with burgundy lettering sometime in the 1990s.

The Exeter Village Board approved a bid of $215,000 in October of 2023 for an exterior facelift and updates to comply with current OSHA safety requirements.

The inside of the tank will also be repaired and cleaned and a new roof has been installed.

The old roof was removed and replaced in a day long project with equipment from Nebraska Crane set up behind the fire hall.

This is the first time the roof has been replaced since the tower was originally installed.

Viking Industrial painting was awarded the bid for the project.
