Exeter Water Tower Project Started

The Exeter water tower has sported the same paint scheme since the late 1990's but that is about to change.

The tower was built in 1928  and "was erected, with a tank within a tank.  The inner tank was to furnish water to the sprinkler system in the tag factory in case of fire," according to the Exeter history book, They Called in Exeter.

It was originally silver with black lettering on it when it was built in 1928 but was repainted to its current white with burgundy lettering sometime in the 1990s.

The Exeter Village Board approved a bid of $215,000 in October of 2023 for an exterior facelift and updates to comply with current OSHA safety requirements.

The inside of the tank will also be repaired and cleaned and a new roof has been installed.

The old roof was removed and replaced in a day long project with equipment from Nebraska Crane set up behind the fire hall.

This is the first time the roof has been replaced since the tower was originally installed.

Viking Industrial painting was awarded the bid for the project.

 

EMF Gets a W for Homecoming Football Game

The Bobcats started scoring late in the first quarter and didn't stop in their homecoming game against Southern in Friend on Friday night.

Mark Milton got a big run with 4:55 left in the first quarter and Mikey Bartu took the next ball and ran it in for six and the Milton took it in for the two point conversion 8-0.

Adrien Mueller returned the Southern punt back into the endzone giving the Bobcats a 14-0 lead and Bartu took the two point in making it 16-0 with 2:29 left in the first quarter.

Aidan Vavra took his turn with 12:00 minutes left in the half tacking on eight poings for the Bobcats 24-0.  With 5:12 left in the half Vavra found another hole and was in the end zone for six.  He then tossed the two point to Truman Milton making it 32 - 0.

In the second half of the game Mason Vossler optioned to Mueller who was in for a TD with 7:54 left in the third quarter 40 - 0 and then Vossler tossed it to Zach Vossler making it 46-0 with 7:53 left in the quarter.  With 3:45 left in the quarter the Raiders found the end zone for 8 making it 46-8.

Will Kallhoff returned the kickoff into the end zone for six making it 52-8 with 3:35 left in the third quarter.

The Raiders scored again making it 52-20 with 11:50 left in the game.

The Bobcats came back with Vossler finding Milton in the end zone for six and Chase Paulsen with the two point catch.  With 9:57 left in the game 60-20.

The Raiders found the end zone one more time with 1:33 left in the game 60-28.

The Bobcats will meet Sutton in Sutton on Friday night.

 

Fundraiser held for Exeter family

The Exeter community wrapped its supporting arms around the Jordan and Sara Pella family on Sunday, September 15 in a fundraiser to benefit Sara's fight against cancer.

There was a hog roast meal, along with hot dogs and sides that was a free will donation.  Also there were over 60 baskets in a silent auction.

Sara teaches middle school language arts at Exeter-Milligan and also is the head EMF girls basketball coach.  Jordan is a Nebraska State Trooper and also is an EMF assistant football coach.  They have two young children.

Sara has served as a lifeguard, pool manager and swimming instructor for many years at Exeter and has recently taken on the role of Exeter Community Club president and has been instrumental in reviving the Exeter Days celebration for the past two summers.

 

Death Notice: Carol Shafer

 Carol Diann Shafer, 79, of York, NE, peacefully passed away and went to her heavenly home on September 23, 2024. 

A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at East Hill Church of Christ in York on September 28, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon at Greenwood Cemetery in York. A luncheon will be held at East Hill Church of Christ following the service, prior to the burial. Visitation will be held on September 27, 2024, at 6:00-8:00 pm at the East Hill Church of Christ. Carol has been cremated, no viewing. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Nebraska Youth Camp in Kearney, NE, at https://nebraskayouthcamp.com/?page_id=77.

EMF Celebrates Homecoming Pep Rally in Downtown Exeter

EMF held their homecoming pep rally in downtown Exeter on Friday, September 20.

All of the Friend students traveled to Exeter and enjoyed a beautiful day to cheer on the Bobcats.

The pep rally started with introductions from Lily Jeffries and Keila Ricenbaw.  The cheer and dance teams performed together to the fight song played by the band.

Each fall season team took the stage for a few minutes to give a brief update on their hopes for the season.

The lip sync competition between the high school classes was next.  The theme for homecoming this year was the Olympics and each class chose a different country and performed their lip sync around that theme.

The audience was treated to everything from Mario Karts to Uncle Sam complete with candy, confetti cannons and smoke towers.

After a quick relay game where the participants had to balance a ping pong ball on a spoon the homecoming court for both districts were introduced with their parents. The cheerleaders closed the pep rally with one final cheer.

 

EMF Exits a stacked MUDECAS bracket early

EMF made the A division of the MUDECAS tournament but were seeded #8, bottom of the bracket in a very tough A division.  The met the #1 seed Freeman on Monday night and lost two close sets.  On Tuesday the met Palmyra, the #5 seed and lost both sets 22-25.
