Lucille Gay Kennedy, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on July 10, 2024, in York, Nebraska, at the age of 65 due to a car accident. Lucille was born on August 17, 1958, in Dodge City, Kansas, and in 1971, she was lovingly taken in by Stanley and Lily Mae Nordlund.
Lucille spent her early years in Kearney, Nebraska, after marrying the love of her life, Larry Kennedy, on April 23, 1983. The couple shared a journey across several Nebraska towns, including Minotaur, Broken Bow, Geneva, and finally settled in Exeter.
A graduate of Ansley High School, Lucille furthered her education at Mid Plains Technical School in North Platte, where she earned an Associate in Nursing. She started her nursing career in Kearney and Broken Bow nursing homes, where she provided compassionate care. Later in life, Lucille worked at Walmart in York, Nebraska, for 13 years before retiring due to medical reasons.
Faith was a cornerstone of Lucille's life. She was baptized into the Christian faith, which remained a guiding force throughout her years. Known for her eagerness to support Larry's creative endeavors, particularly his "redneck yard art," Lucille found joy in her role as "Grandma Cricket" to her cherished grandchildren.
Lucille had a vibrant array of interests and hobbies, including scrapbooking, bird watching, crafting, and gardening. She delighted in spending time with her grandchildren, tending to her flowers, and collecting various treasures. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family, as she was always a caregiver at heart.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Lillie Mae Nordlund, her father-in-law Earl Kennedy, and her great nieces, Chloe and Kyndall Collins. She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry of Exeter, her mother-in-law, Marlene Kennedy of Broken Bow, and her children: Lance and Cherry Kennedy of Torrington, Wyoming, Tyrell and Megan Kennedy of McCool Junction, and Lana Kennedy of Exeter. She also leaves behind her siblings Barb and Daniel Hanson of Broken Bow, Deborah Kennedy of Broken Bow, Randy and Rhonda Kennedy of Lincoln, Sondra Fry of Grand Island, Jim and Grace Nordlund of Aurora, Debra and John Frost of Minot, North Dakota, Linda and Everett Donelson in Aurora, Colorado, and special friend Lindy Renfro of Eaton, Colorado. Lucille's legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Lucas, GraceLynn, Caidan, Taran, Peyton, and Aeson, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews.
Lucille's warmth, creativity, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
