Cub Scouts in Pack 218 collected food to take to Blue Valley in Geneva as part of the Scouting for Food program.  The scouts collect food every year.  This year, instead of going door to door, they placed boxes at several locations in Exeter and Milligan and then collected food on Saturday morning for several hours.

EXETER AQUATIC CENTER RULES & POLICIES

GENERAL

No loitering around office area. 

No sitting on the office counters.

No talking to the lifeguards while on duty.

Children must be 8 years old to gain admission to the aquatic center without an accompanying chaperon (13 & older).

Patrons must take a shower using soap before entering the pool.

No person having an obvious communicable disease, skin eruption, open sore, lesion, eye, ear, nose, or throat infection shall be permitted to use the pool.

Tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and glass are prohibited in the pool area.  All food and drink must be consumed outside the aquatic center or inside the designated area directly north of the bathhouse.

Coolers, food, and beverages may not be brought into the facility.

Profanity and abusive or vulgar language is prohibited.

Fighting, rough play, pushing/shoving, and running are prohibited.

No spitting or spouting of water or blowing nose in water.

Proper swim wear is required.  Street clothes are not permitted in the water.

Infants or toddlers wearing diapers will not be allowed entrance into the facility without plastic diaper covers or swim diapers.

No hanging on safety ropes or buoys.

No sitting, playing on, or diving off ladders.

No pets or animals allowed (other than service animals).

No diving in less than 5 feet of water.

Flotation devices (inner tubes, air mattresses, etc.) are prohibited.

Exeter Library Summer Reading Program

“Dream Big Read” the Exeter Public Library Summer reading program will start in June.  Preschool through the third grade need to register by June 1 at the Exeter Public Library by stopping by or calling 266-3031 for more details.

Exeter Library Mural touched up

The mural at the Exeter Public Library Storybook Park was recently updated and touched up.  The words Storybook Park were added by Librarian Nina Bartu (pictured above) and the bookworm got a bit of a facelift just in time for preschool children to enjoy this summer.

Exeter-Milligan elementary students got a taste of track and field events on Friday as the school hosted their annual Field Day at the Exeter campus.

There was a huge audience of parents and family members for the event.  Kindergarten, first and second graders got to try out some of the events with running events, potato sack races and also a chance to try out the high jump, long jump, and softball throw.

Third through sixth graders had the opportunity to choose their events picking  at least one field event and several running events from sprinting to long distance, hurdles to the potato sack race.

The yearly event is organized by P.E. teachers Bob Mahoney and is run by all of the elementary teachers, the high school P.E. teachers and lots of the high school students.

Exeter Senior Center Hosts Senior to Senior Breakfast

The Exeter Senior Center was full of grandparents and special guests for the Senior to Senior Breakfast.

It’s a tradition now, the Exeter-Milligan seniors are invited to the Exeter Senior Center for breakfast before graduation but they also get to share the time with special seniors in their own lives, their grandparents.

For eleven years the members of the Exeter Senior Center have baked breakfast casseroles and muffins, decorated the Senior Center and honored both sets of seniors.

The project started when then board member Elva McBride recalled the special breakfast her own school had and wanted to duplicate that in her adopted community of Exeter. The Senior Center recognized Elva for this contribution with a bouquet of flowers.

Fillmore County Senior Services advisor Brenda Motis noted that the idea met with some resistance “as all new ideas do,” but after a few years it became a popular event. It gives the graduating class a few extra moments with their grandparents without parents around.

After the meal was served Motis took the opportunity to talk to the group. She reminded the seniors that "No matter what, always remember you'll always have a link to the Exeter and Milligan communities and family and friends and neighbors like us who are thinking of you and supporting you all the way.  We take the time to acknowledge the time and effort your grandparents and special friends have put into your lives.”

When the group had finished eating, the graduating seniors were asked to introduce themselves, tell the audience about their future plans and introduce their grandparents and guests.

In addition to serving the breakfast the Senior Center also held a drawing for Casey's gift certificates. The female gift went to Brittni Kotas and the male gift went to Brady Bristol. They also drew names for all of the balloon bouquets that were used as decorations.

The volunteers who made the event possible were Elva Mc Bride, Evelyn Elznic, Bonnie Cudaback, Evelyn Michl, Doris Hall, Roma Rhodes, Elaine Krejci, Marion Geiger, LaVonne Guthrie, and Frances Pracheil

Exeter-Milligan High Graduates Thirteen

Exeter- Milligan graduating seniors from left to right are Michael Schoop, Brady Bristol, Claire White,  Blake Mark,  Colleen Colson,  Jalen Maxson,  Rebecca Vossler, Nolan Beatham,  Lana Kennedy, Nathan Bigelow,  Brittni Kotas, Quinten Loontjer, and Trevor Rainey.

The Exeter-Milligan class of 2012 graduated Saturday May 12^th at 4:00 pm with all thirteen members receiving diplomas.

The crowd was welcomed by graduating senior Quinten Loontjer before watching the senior video which shared many of their memories, family photos and special poetry.

Rebecca Vossler and Brady Bristol both shared their thoughts on the future with the audience before the eighth grade class were recognized for completing junior high.

Diplomas were handed out by Superintendent Paul Sheffield and Exeter-Milligan School Board Vice President Brent Moore.  The class was presented before Claire White gave the closing remarks.  With diplomas in hand the seniors were escorted out of the gym by their parents and family members where they formed a receiving line outside.
