Exeter-Milligan held their Athletic Banquet on Monday
evening in the Exeter gym.
After enjoying a Windsor loin buffet dinner Superintendent
Paul Sheffield welcomed the audience and stated, “This has been an
unprecedented year and a year of many firsts.”
He added his appreciation for the attitude of the students
throughout the pandemic and all of the precautions they had to take to stay
safe.
Each head coach had the opportunity to speak about their
team starting with Fillmore Central-Exeter-Milligan/Friend softball coach Aaron
Lauby. He reminded the audience, “If your why is strong enough you can do
anything.”
Phyllis Severson, cheerleader sponsor, introduced the
2021-2022 cheerleaders including Captain Maddie Luzum, Jozie Kanode, Morgan
White, Hannah Busboom, Malorie Staskal and Lily Jeffries.
Assistant Football Coach Kory Kahlandt filled in for head
coach Dean Filipi and recognized the football team and their accomplishments.
Coach Matt Nicholas talked about the girls golf season and
also the boys basketball season.
Jackson Krejci, head coach for girls basketball, remarked on
the resiliency of all of the student athletes, “For the girls and boys to have
to go thru this, it was tough, it was great to see them get through without
complaining.”
He also recognized the junior high girls basketball team
members and their season.
Treven Cerveny introduced the junior high football team and
briefly shared about their successful season.
First year head coach Madalynn Fousek gave a rundown of the
high school volleyball season.
Darcy White reviewed the junior high volleyball season along
with junior high girls track.
Junior high basketball coach Brian Murphy talked about their
season and also discussed how the current high school boys track season is
progressing.
Head girls track coach Katherine Smith shared about her love
for track and the girls on the team. She also told about her donut runs for personal best rewards.
Krejci added his review of the junior high boys track season
before presenting the three sport athletes with their medals. Freshman
participating in all three seasons were Tyler Due, Devin Harrison, Savana
Krupicka, Draven Payne, Taylor Pribyl, Malorie Staskal and Andrew Vavra.
Sophomores who earned a medal were Jozie Kanode, Marcus Krupicka, Daysan
Staskal and Jasmine Turrubiates.
Juniors recognized for participating in all three sports
were Braden Capek, Cameran Jansky, Madison Luzum, and Emma Olsen. The
three seniors who earned a medal were Jackson Beethe, Cammie Harrison and
Jaiden Papik.
Special medals were the final part of the evening.
Georgia Meyer was presented the Leonard Kassik softball player of the
year. Jaiden Papik earned the Bill Fitzgerald volleyball trophy.
The outstanding football player of the year was given to
Jackson Beethe. Beethe also earned the Gary Ruhl male basketball player
of the year. Jaiden Papik received the Gary Ruhl female basketball player
of the year. The Bill Fitzgerald rookie of the year award was given to
Tyler Due and Savana Krupicka.
Female team player of the year was Jaiden Papik and Ben
Bartu was the male team player of the year. Papik also received the
female athlete of the year and Beethe was presented the male athlete of the
year.
