Exeter-Milligan Honors Veterans

Exeter-Milligan honored area veterans on Monday, Veteran’s Day with a breakfast and hand written notes of thanks.

The senior class National Honor Society members directed veterans and their spouses to the cafeteria and helped serve them breakfast before the program.

The district also held their annual Veteran’s Day program which featured a number of musical performances and a keynote speech by Exeter American Legion Post 218 Commander Mark Beethe.

Aidan Vavra welcomed the guests to the program before the Exeter-Milligan high school choir sang “The Star Spangled Banner.”

This was followed by the band playing “Yankee Fanfare” and “Hymn to Freedom.”  Exeter-Milligan counselor Madalyn Fousek introduced Beethe.

Beethe spoke about the importance of thanking veterans and “honoring the brave men and women. . .express our deep gratitude to these living examples of courage and their dedication to sacrifice.”

He also reminded the audience to remember and honor their families “who stood beside them, supported them and made sacrifices.”

Beethe spoke about the oath that each member of the military takes when they are inducted into the service.  To veterans, this oath is not a mere formality, “it is a lifetime of commitment.”

To end, he praised the veterans again and stated, “Your service matters, your sacrifice is appreciated.”

The junior high choir, accompanied by Mrs. Angie Murphy, performed “This Land is Your Land,” “America, The Beautiful,” and “Song for the Unsung Hero.”  A trio of students including Liam Capek, Beau Becker and Kate Pribyl opened their performance of “This Land is Your Land.”

The high school choir performed a very moving number, “Thank You, Soldiers” before the band recognized each branch of the service with “America’s Finest (A Musical Tribute to the Armed Forces).”

The program was closed by Kmila Benitez.
