Obituary: Heidi M. (Styskal) Earleywine

 Heidi Marie Earleywine was born to Daryl Fredrick Styskal and Joan Margaret Heidtbrink on October 24, 1975 at York, Nebraska and passed away August 31, 2024 at her home in Laguna Vista, Texas at the age of 48. She was one of 4 children in the family.

Heidi was baptized at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cordova, Nebraska and was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. Heidi attended grade school at Engleman Middle School at Westridge and graduated from Grand Island Northwest High School. While attending Grand Island Northwest she was named Homecoming Queen & participated in organized sports. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2000 with a Bachelors' Degree in Organizational Communications. Heidi worked at Windstream, The Sandbar, Infogroup, and Time Warner/Spectrum prior to beginning her most recent job at State Farm Insurance in March of 2017 where she was a Bodily Injury Claim Specialist. Heidi married Ryan Earleywine on January 21st 2017 in Lincoln, Ne. Heidi and Ryan relocated to Laguna Vista, Texas in June of 2022 to escape winter weather and Live in Paradise.

Heidi enjoyed running and walking, spending time with family and friends, Husker Football, taking her dogs to the beach and having pool parties with her husband, friends and dogs. Heidi had a deep love for her family and friends. She was an amazing wife, bonus mom to her step-children, Sydney and Brock Earleywine, Dog Mom, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Heidi loved, and is loved deeply.

Heidi was preceded in death by her grandparents, Fredrick and Jean Styskal of Exeter, Nebraska and Marvin and Margaret Heidtbrink of Gresham, Nebraska and uncle, Randy Heidtbrink.

She is survived by her loving husband Ryan Earleywine of Laguna, Texas; step-children, Sydney & Brock both of Kearney, Nebraska; fur babies, Ozzy, Chloe, and Lyla; father, Daryl and Ann Styskal of Exeter, Nebraska; mother Joan ( Heidtbrink) Maxon of Grand Island, Nebraska; brothers, Gary Styskal and his children, Jacob and Caleb Styskal,of York, Nebraska, Brandon ( Shannon) Maxon of Omaha, Nebraska and their children Brooklyn, Shea, Charlie & Maggie, Tyler (Erin) Maxon of Clive, Iowa and their children Frank, Stella, Abe and Zeke; father and mother-in-law, Larry and Rainy Earleywine of Lincoln, Nebraska; sister and brother-in-law, Darcy and Derrill Grabenstein of Lincoln, Nebraska; uncle, Ron Styskal and wife Janet; cousins, Jeremy Styskal and wife, Tammy; cousin, Jenny Styskal Faust and husband, Jon, as well as Payton, Preston, Piper and Presley Faust; aunt, Cheryl Luzum and the late, Dwayne Luzum Sr.; cousins, Rebecca Nichols, Laurie and husband, Scott Glock, along with daughters Madison and Miranda Glock; uncle Barry and Cathy Heidtbrink; cousins, Jeremy and Jen Heidtbrink and family, Jerod and Judy Heidtbrink and family and Joshua and Kiley Heidtbrink and family, Ryan and Lucero Heidtbrink; uncle, Gene Heidtbrink; aunt, Jodi and Donley Schall; cousins, Dillon Schall and significant other, Lacey and Kaylee and Justin Coleman.

Obituary John P. "Pat" Hassler

 John Patrick Hassler, 80, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Friend, Nebraska, on September 3, 1944, John was the beloved son of John Francis and Elaine Elizabeth (Becker) Hassler. He grew up in a close-knit community, attending St. Stephens Catholic School and Exeter High School, before continuing his education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Lincoln School of Commerce.

On October 15, 1966, John married the love of his life, Sharon Kay (Hall), and for 58 years together they built a beautiful family, raising three children: Kathryn, Rebecca, and John Michael. John served his country with pride as a member of the U.S. Army from December 1966 to 1969, spending a memorable year stationed in Korea from 1967 to 1968.

A dedicated civil servant, John retired after 43 years of service with the State of Nebraska, working for both the Auditor's Office and the Department of Revenue. He was deeply respected by colleagues and county officials alike, not only for his work ethic but for his generosity as a mentor and friend. His dedication was recognized by being named an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska, an honor he treasured.

John’s passions extended beyond his professional life. He was an avid woodworker, known for spending countless hours in his workshop crafting furniture and projects for those he loved. His meticulous attention to detail was unmatched, and there wasn't a tool he didn’t own. When he wasn't in the shop, you could find John working in his yard or garden, a true farmer at heart, or enjoying the simple pleasure of watching the birds from his deck.

Family was John’s greatest joy. He delighted in attending his children’s and grandchildren's events, whether it was sports, dance, or horse riding. His pride in them was evident to all who knew him. John’s kind and generous spirit was always at the forefront—he was the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, whether family, friends, neighbors, or strangers.

John was a proud member of the American Legion and a parishioner at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, where his faith was an important part of his life. His legacy of love, kindness, and hard work will live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate to know him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon; his children, Kathryn (Eric) Seiboldt of Omaha, Rebecca (Matt) Kempston of Lincoln, and John “Mike” Hassler of Lincoln; six adoring grandchildren, Cassandra Seiboldt of Lincoln, Jessica Seiboldt of Bentonville, AR, Chelsea (Reece) Hyland of Lincoln, Cole Kempston, Addison Kempston, and Paityn Hassler, all of Lincoln; sister-in-law Kay Hassler, nephew Riley (Katy) Hassler, sister-in-law Sandra (Jim) Horne, brother-in-law Roger (Susan) Hall, and brother-in-law Randy (Stacey) Hall, along with many cherished in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Elaine, and his brother, Tom.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Cancer Partners of Nebraska and Bryan East Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion.

John’s life was a testament to service, love, and kindness. He will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

EMF Falls to Johnson-Brock

The Bobcats had a rough start to begin their second game of the season.  Johnson Brock was ready to come out fighting after a big loss to Sandy Creek in the first week.

The Eagles got on the board first and made it 0-8 just a few seconds into the game.  After both teams turned over on downs the Bobcats got loose but after a hard hit the ball was fumbled and Johnson-Brock took the ball all the way down field and scored making it 0-16.

Johnson-Brock had a pick six and hey were up 0-22 with 10:09 in the first half the Eagles scored again making it 0-30.  The Bobcats weren't going to give up and fought bafck with seven minutes left in the half Aidan Vavra kept the ball and ran it in for a TD. two point was denied making it 6-30. After exchanging interceptions before halftime the Bobcats knew they had to come back kicking.

In the fourth quarter Mikey Bartu found the end zone for eight making it 14-30.  The Bobcats made one more score and the final was 20-30.  They will play Shelby- Rising City in Milligan Friday night.  

The EMF Boosters will be hosting a tailgate burger meal.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Exeter, Nebraska with Father Brendan Kelly presiding.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter, Nebraska.

Military Graveside Services will be conducted following the Funeral Mass at the Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, Nebraska.

 A Memorial Service for Heidi will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Exeter Methodist Community Church in Exeter, Nebraska with Pastor Murry Johnston presiding.

A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at Farmer Funeral Home in Exeter, Nebraska from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with the family present.

Burial of Ashes will be held following the Memorial Service on Friday, September 13, 2023 at the Exeter Cemetery in Exeter, Nebraska.

EMF Lady Bobcats go 3-0 to open season

After dropping the first set to David City Aquinas the Bobcats came out fighting taking the next three sets to win their home opener.

 

EMF Football Team brings win home from Clarkson Leigh

Mark Milton started the season off right for the Bobcats as he returned the starting kick off for touchdown.  The PAT failed and Clarkson got loose and scored six with 8:36 left in the first quarter.

Hunter Svehla decided he would play the kick off return for a touchdown game and added six points for the Bobcats. Mikey Bartu plowed into the endzone for two points making it 14 to 6.

Clarkson Leigh found themselves just five yards from the end zone but the Bobcats made a huge stop with Zack Spohn taking down the qb and stopping the drive.

From their own five yard line Bartu took the handoff from quarterback Aidan Vavra and slipped through the hole the offense created and found the end zone on the first down.  Zach Vossler caught Vavra's pass for the two point conversion making it 22 to 6.

Clarkson Leigh got away from the Bobcat defense and found the end zone with 420 left in the quarter making it 22-12 before Milton got a hold of the ball again and found the end zone.  Bartu ran in for the two point 30-12.

Milton found the end zone again making it 36-12 and Bartu took a turn adding six.42-12

The defense stepped up again and freshman Elijah Oceguera stopped Clarkson Leigh on the four yard line.  

Bartu takes a snap from Mason Vossler and is home free giving him a 76 yard td.  Dayton Kremer took the ball in for two.  Clarkson Leigh scored in the last few minutes.  Final 50-20.  The Bobcats head to Johnson-Brock Friday night

EMF Picks up Wins at Pawnee City

 

EMF started their regular season in a tri meeting Pawnee City and Lewiston in Pawnee City.  They brought home a full sweep of the two teams.
