Exeter-Milligan Junior Senior High Christmas Concert

 Exeter-Milligan Junior-Senior High Christmas Concert was held on Monday, December 18 in Exeter.

Mr. Mark Perez, director, led multiple groups through a celebration of the holiday season.

The Junior high choir opened the concert with "Christmas Lullaby" and "Candle in Your Heart," accompanied by Mrs. Angie Murphy.

They then performed the perennial favorite "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" on the Ukelele and also sang along.

The all male high school choir did an excellent performance of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" with some wonderful harmonies.

The high school choir also had the crowd boppin' with their rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree."

The junior senior high band performed a beautiful arrangement of "White Christmas."  Next the band brought to life the Charlie Brown Christmas special songs including the classic opening, "Christmastime is Here" and "O Christmas Tree."

The concert closed with a Christmas sing-a-long with audience participation encouraged.

After the concert families were invited to the Christmas Tea sponsored by the Booster Club Fine Arts Committee

York News Time All-Area Football Team slated James Sluka as one of the Co-Captains.  Other team members include Nolan White, and Kyle Jensen.  Garrett Pribyl and Derek Luzum were given an honorable mention.

 

Exeter-Milligan hosted High Plains Friday night in a battle on the boards.   The final score for the girls was 42-38 with the Timberwolves beating the buzzer. The boys team fell just short, losing 58-60.

 

Title I Reading - The second graders have been learning about the different parts of writing letters.  They have written letters to their pen pals in Friend and to Santa.  I have worked with the Title I students on coming up with ideas, helping with spelling/reversals, and the correct form for letter writing.  They know the parts of a letter with using visuals that Mrs. Weber has taught them.  The first graders have been working on practicing reading out of their Reading Mastery book as well as spelling words that they have been missing.   Some letter formation has also been worked on during our Title I time.  A  Ziploc bag filled with hair gel, dye, and glitter was used to “draw” on the bag so they "feel" and "see" the letter that they have made

 

Exeter-Milligan Jr and Sr High vocal and band students performed a Christmas program on Tuesday, December 10^th.

 

The Junior High Choir began the night with “Somewhere in My Memory” and “Christmas. . .In About Three Minutes”  before the band gathered their instruments and treated the crowd to “Jingle-Bell Rock” and “Winter Wonderland.”

During the evening, guests were also treated to an art show with all of the seventh through 12 grade students artwork in the small gym.

 

The Exeter United Methodist Church hosted a community Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 7^th.  Everyone was invited to take some time to share their lists with Santa and have their picture made.  After getting a copy of their picture, a goodie bag and a stuffed animal they were invited downstairs for eggs, sausage and toast. 

Exeter-Milligan Update: Ag and Welding

 

Ag Update

The fall semester of agriculture classes has kicked off to a great start! 

 

Welding students have completed four weld tests using Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Stick) and will be doing the same as we switch over to Gas Metal Arc Welding (Wire). 

 

The 8th grade class is currently covering the basics of animal terminology and care. Coming up, they will be exploring careers in agriculture followed by a shop unit where they will each have the opportunity to try welding.

 

Plant Science class just completed plant growth trial experiments testing a variety of factors dealing with light, temperature, and water which built on their previous unit about soil in plant development. Their next unit will focus on plant pests, including diseases and insects.

 

The Animal Science class put the finishing touches on their animal housing models which included a feedlot, chicken barn, and horse stable as they watched the Temple Grandin movie and learned about proper handling of livestock. This class will be moving into the animal products unit soon.

 

In Agribusiness class, they enjoyed a guest speaker from Generations Bank to finish up the financial unit where they learned about balance sheets, income statements, and budgets. The next unit is focused on commodity marketing where they will be competing in an online marketing simulation competition against other high schools in Nebraska.

 

And finally, the EMF FFA chapter has had a busy fall so far with members attending Husker Harvest Days, harvesting pumpkins with Farmers and Merchants Bank in Milligan, and serving meals to farmers at four local cooperatives. Some of our members also competed at District Livestock Judging on Oct. 18th. The Junior Team of Keltyn Kirchoff, Cohen Harre, Hunter Svehla, and Malorie Lawver placed 3rd and qualified for state. Coming up for the chapter is our annual Gift Card Drive in November for organ transplant patients at UNMC and competing at District Leadership Development Events in December.

Character Counts Focus - Respect

The K-5th graders at Exeter-Milligan have been working on Character Counts challenges. We always start each focus with Mrs. Kroll reading a book that ties into our focus. Here Mrs. Kroll is reading a book about Respect and the ways that we can show respect. Before reading the book, Mrs. Kroll asked students for ways to show respect. After reading the book, she asked students to compare their earlier responses to those examples in the book.

 

 

Bobcats can't hold onto lead against Nebraska Lutheran

EMF led at one point during the last half of their hot to trot match up with Nebraska Lutheran but they just couldn't hold on to the lead.  Final score was 48-54

 

EMF Lady Bobcats can't brave the Knights

The Lady Bobcats clawed their way back from a deficit in the first quarter but it just wasn't enough to beat the Lady Knights.  Final score 40-44

 

Exeter-Milligan Update: Middle School Language Arts

 

Middle Grades Language Arts update

In 8th grade English, the students have embarked into a captivating literary journey as they explore Mary Shelley's timeless classic, "Frankenstein," in the form of a graphic novel.  They began the graphic novel by drawing their interpretation of Frankenstein, they soon learned that Frankenstein is actually the scientist and not the monster.  The students sketched their interpretations of the monster, drawing inspiration from the rich descriptions found in the text.  At the end of the unit, they will work together to create a life-size monster of their own.  

In the 7th grade English class the students have been diving into the life of Phineas Gage, a railroad worker who survived a traumatic brain injury in the 19th century. Students examine the psychological and physiological effects of Gage's injury on his personality and behavior.  They will eventually have to form an opinion about whether Phineas Gage was lucky or unlucky and write a persuasive essay on the topic.  

In the 6th grade English class the students have been on a historical journey as they explore the devastating impact of Yellow Fever. They learn about the epidemics that struck cities in the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly the infamous 1793 outbreak in Philadelphia. Through narratives and non-fiction accounts, students gain an understanding of the medical, social, and cultural aspects of this disease. 

The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade reading curriculum introduces students to a diverse range of subjects, from history and science to literature. These texts not only help students develop their reading and analytical skills but also expand their horizons by exposing them to important historical events, intriguing scientific case studies, and classic literature. There have been some amazing classroom discussions and lots of student engagement!
