The Exeter Public Library Summer Reading Program has been a hit this summer.  There have been a few changes to the program this year, with each age group just having one session instead of a weekly session.  Also new this year, was a session for toddler’s that will take place on Friday, June 28th at 10 a.m. and a session for 4th and 5th graders earlier this summer.

Some of the activities completed in this summer’s reading program  were a duct tape wallet, paper pinwheels, designed their own giant trap, made an ocean scene and the toddlers will have a program on dinosaur’s.

The Exeter Softball team were the Class C District Champions.

This month the goal for Exeter was 37 units and there were two important difference makers in helping the group collect 42 pints.  Primarily it was the eight individuals who gave double red units counting for 16 pints.  Second of all it was the two first time donors, Exeter-Milligan incoming seniors Erica Yound and Meredith Emshoff.

Dave Bristol and Meg Becker were presented with four gallon pins by Mousel.

During the American Red Cross Bloodmobile in Exeter on Friday, June 28th Doris Hall was recognized as she retired from close to 25 years of coordinating the event.

Donor Recruitment Representative Stephanie Mousel was on hand to honor  Hall and presented her with a certificate of achievement which noted that Hall has helped collected over 735 units of blood with the American Red Cross.  Both knew that Hall had coordinate the drive to collect more than the certificate listed but some of the records weren’t available.

There’s a new face at Generations Bank this summer, Brock Christensen of Superior, Neb. has joined the bank as an intern this summer.

Christensen, a senior at UNL is majoring in Ag Business and Banking and Finance.  He plans to graduate in December.

He heard about the internship program through the Nebraska Bankers Association and the Banking and Finance Program at UNL.  Alan Emshoff, President of Generations Bank was working through the Nebraska Bankers Association to find an intern from UNL’s Banking and Finance program for the summer and they were able to connect and offer Christensen the internship program.

About the same time Emshoff learned about a fairly young program sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development.  “The Nebraska Department of Economic Development has an internship program for most business in Nebraska that gives them some reimbursement from the State of Nebraska to help pay the interns.”
