Game 1 @ Friend vs. High Plains-  Win 20-6  EMF got off to a rough beginning to the game as on the first offensive series our starting 1 back, Mikey Bartu, got injured and lost for the rest of the season.  EMF did manage to pull out the win in an ugly game in which we had to move players around to different positions.  

 

Game 2 @ Friend vs. Diller Odell- Win 52-14  EMF came out strong from the start dominating in all phases of the game.

 

Game 3 @ Milligan vs Thayer Central Loss 0-20 Thayer Central was a very tough foe.  They had very large and athletic kids.  We struggled to move the ball as consistently as we would like and made mistakes when we had opportunities to put points on the board.

 

Game 4 @ Meridian- Win 62-12 Meridian presented a unique challenge as we had to play defense against a 6 man offense which can be confusing if you are not used to playing 6 man football.  Meridian scored quickly on their first possession, then recovered the onside kick and scored again!  EMF found themselves in a hole but recovered, holding Meridian to 0 points after that and scoring 62 unanswered points.

 

Game 5 @ Shelby-Loss 18-36  EMF was in a dogfight from the start keeping the game close in the first half.  In the second half we made too many mistakes and had some untimely penalties to stall drives.

 

Game 6 @ Heartland- Win 24-18  EMF played a tough game overcoming the fact that we were missing some players for various reasons and Jacob Klooz was playing with a lot of pain and only able to use one arm.  We had kids step up and help us do enough to secure the win.

 

Coach Cerveny and Hitchcock are very proud of the guys.  They had to overcome a lot of obstacles this year including injuries and Covid.  When we lost Mikey to injury we lost a very strong team leader.  This was unfortunate but did give Jacob Klooz and Aiden Vavra a chance to step up and develop as team leaders and they did step up in a big way!  We look forward to  next year as we have a strong core of talented 7th graders who are capable of a strong season next year.

 

 

Throwback Thursday

Exeter-Milligan Lady Timberwolves sealed their DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP tonight at Tri-County soundly defeating Pawnee City in three sets.  The Timberwolves are seeded #1 in the State Championship that will begin next Thursday in Grand Island. Congrats!

Annabelle Mason, age 83 of Exeter, passed away Wednesday, November 3, 2010 in Lincoln, NE. 

St. Stephens Altar Society held their annual Card Party and Salad Luncheon.

Exeter-Milligan Junior High Volleyball Season Review

The E-M Junior High Volleyball team ended their season on October 3 with a record of 4-7.  The girls had wins over Friend and Sterling along with 2 wins over McCool Junction. They had losses to BDS, Dorchester (2 times), Meridian (2 times), Centennial and Sutton.  The girls’ season was cut short due to COVID related issues.  Leading the team in serving was Kaydence Haase (86%, 47 aces), Emma Meyer (85%, 23 aces), and Alivia Luzum (84%, 24 aces). 

 

Exeter Village Board Meets

 

The Exeter Village Board met on Tuesday, November 3 in the village office.

After reviewing the minutes from the last meeting the board examined the bills and approved them.

Clerk Becky Erdkamp noted that the new bookcase is in place at the library which was purchased with memorial funds given in memory for Erma Adamson.

Chairman Alan Michl and Clerk Erdkamp gave an update on the Salazar property.  The Board reviewed a list of expenses which were sent to the property owner who now has 30 days to respond.

Clerk Erdkamp reported that Jim Votipka did not pick up the certified letter she sent about the village ordinance violations. The Village Marshall advised the clerk to send an additional letter stating that the equipment will be towed by Nov 30 if it is not moved.

The inspector has visited the houses the board indicated they might condemn,  but they have not received his report yet.

Michl advised the board that the governor had approved a measure to allow any board member to electronically be a part of the meetings for the rest of the year because of COVID.

The board held a discussion on providing ice melt for downtown businesses again this year.  The cost is about $600 per season, “It would be better to use that, fixing a patch costs at least $600,” noted Michl. “Once it’s pitted, it’s ruined, and it’s done.”

Board member Justin Harre added, “The amount of money we spent on that concrete, this stuff is cheap.”

Under the marshals report Michl noted that there was a break in at a business in town and the board briefly discussed the village officer’s and the sheriff’s department.

Village maintenance supervisor John Mueller noted that the concrete sidewalk at the park was poured but one of the picnic tables under the shelter is missing.

Clerk Erdkamp reported that sales tax for August was $24,511.73 sales tax and Keno for September was $209.62.

The board set the next meeting for Tuesday, Dec 8.

 The Exeter-Milligan Volleyball team recently won the Crossroads Conference Tournament defeating Bruning-Davenport-Shickley in four sets.

Exeter-Milligan senior Heather Pribyl was chosen as the CRC All Tournament  Honorary Captain.  Also chosen for the team were Junior Claire White and Senior Kelsey Moore.  Congratulations to both the team for their back to back CRC Tournament win and also to the ladies chosen for the All Tournament Team.

Also Congratulations to the Exeter-Milligan Football Team as they were named District Champions.  The 4 - 4 Timberwolves will travel to Howells (8-0) on Thursday for a 6 p.m. game.

 On Monday evening Exeter-Milligan Superintendent Paul Sheffield presented a power point overview of the district levy override measure that will be presented to voters on November 2nd.

Kelly Sladek, of Cordova, was presented the Outstanding Woman Athlete Award at the 2010 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at Midland University, in Fremont, Neb.  Kelly , a 2010 graduate of Midland and a 2006 Exeter-Milligan graduate, was a four year starter for Midland in softball.  As a pitcher, Kelly currently holds career school records for innings pitched (616.0) and for strikeouts (705).  She also holds the season school record for ERA at 1.23 in 2009.  In 2010, Kelly led Midland to their second ever berth in the NAIA National Tournament.  She recorded a career-high 196 strikeouts in 164 2/3 innings in 2010, an average of 8.33 strikeouts per 7 innings.  For her career, Kelly averaged 8.01 strikeouts per 7 innings.  Kelly earned First-Team All-Conference honors in 2007, 2009 and 2010.  She received Second Team All-Conference honors in 2008.  In 2009, Kelly was also selected Conference Pitcher of the Year and she received NAIA Honorable Mention All-American Honors.  Kelly is the daughter of Bill and Tammy Sladek of Cordova, and she is presently teaching in the Fremont Public Schools.
