Lady Timberwolves Headed to State

 Exeter-Milligan defeated the Bertrand Vikings in four sets in Hastings Saturday evening to punch their ticket for the State Tournament.  They will play Wynot on Thursday, November 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Lincoln Southeast.

Odego Class Visits History and Tourism Sites

FILLMORE COUNTY - The “Odegeo. . .Leadership for Fillmore County” class visited various places for their October History and Tourism session on October 16^th. 

              The group first traveled to the Strang Museum where Janet Lentfer told some interesting stories of the items housed in the Museum. The next stop was the Ohiowa Auditorium where Carol Kapperman told the history of the Auditorium and all the events that take place now at the facility. The class enjoyed snacks provided by Vicky Thompson and coffee at the Ohiowa Café which was sponsored by Waddell & Reed.

             The group traveled to the Maple Grove Barn near Tobias where Bob and LaDean Endorf took the group on a tour of the historic Maple Grove Sales Pavilion and Farrowing Barn that was built in 1912.  They also told stories about some of that other buildings on the farm that were built in that same era.

             The next stop was the Milligan Public Library. Shirley Brunkow met the group and told interesting stories of finding information on the soldiers that were killed in the crashes while training at Fairmont Army Airfield during World War ll, showed a short video about the search for the soldiers produced by NBC and explained the markers that were erected in honor of the soldiers killed in those crashes.  The group also took time to hear about the history of the Milligan Auditorium given by Scott Oliva and how it is still a vital part of the community today

              The class enjoyed a pizza lunch that was sponsored by First Bank of Utica-Milligan, Farmer & Merchants Bank, Milligan Insurance Agency and Oliva Insurance

            After lunch the group went to St. Stephen’s Catholic Church were Agnes Anderson told about the historic church that features 44 stained glass windows.

            The group met Doug Rung at the Historic World War ll marker for the Fairmont Air Field on Highway 81 and he gave some history of the base. The group then drove around the Airbase.  From there the group went to the Fillmore County Museum where the Fillmore County Historical Society board members answered questions about the two facilities; the Fairmont Creamery Building/Ashby Building and the McClellam Drug Store. The class enjoyed ice cream sundaes at the historic soda shoppe.  The ice treat was sponsored by the Fillmore County Farm Bureau.

            The last stop of the day was at the Geneva Auditorium that was built in 1915.  Cindy Callenius, manager of the Cinema Association, told the group the Rialto II theater that is run by volunteers with just one paid part-time staff, herself. Many upgrades to the theater have been made including the new digital program used for showing movies, new seats and new curtains.  

             The day was wrapped up with Brandy VanDeWalle talking to the group on “Being a Leader”.

Bobcats Top the Warriors in Second Round Playoff Action

On their first possession the Fullerton Warriors tried to show their strength, but Exeter-Milligan/Friend turned it around with an interception on the Warriors fourth down.

EMF wasn't able to capitalize on that interception and went three and out.  Fullerton got a break and found the end zone with 6:14 left in the first quarter.  They tacked on the two point conversion as well.

Not to be outdone, on the EMF first down, Mitchell Manning took the ball downtown for six points and Max Zeleny caught a Spencer Pribyl pass to tie the game up at eight.

Fullerton responded with a big pass in the end zone to add on six more points with 3:29 left in the first quarter.  14-8

The Bobcats couldn't let that slip by so Pribyl tossed one down to Zeleny near the end zone and on the next down Pribyl kept the ball for eight more topping the Warriors 16-14 with 1:34 left in the quarter.

Edwin Baptista started the second quarter with a huge run into end zone for six.  Under pressure Pribyl hit Manning for the two point.24-14

Fullerton fought back with a big pass in the end zone but the two point was denied as Pribyl sacked the quarterback.  24-20 2:08 left in the half.

The Bobcats weren't done with the half yet and with seven seconds left on the clock Pribyl tossed the ball to Bossaller who with a Warrior in his face bobbled the ball but managed to hang on to the six points.  Baptista caught the two point conversion.  32-20 at the half.

After an EMF fumble that was recovered by Fullerton Colton Bossaller intercepted a Hunter Haughton pass and ran it down near the EMF 15.  

Manning finished off the run for six and Bossaller caught the two point bringing the score to 40-20.

Fullerton fought downfield after starting the drive on the EMF 3 and punched it in for six 40-28.  They tried to get possession of the ball with just three minutes left on the clock by kicking an onsite kick but after a high bounce Pribyl grabbed it and the Bobcats ran down the clock for 40-28 finish.

The JH girls finished their volleyball season with a 7-8 win/loss record. A few matches we wish
we could have a do-over were against Friend and Giltner. We gave them too many points due
to our missed serves and trouble staying calm in tense situations! The great thing about that is
they all learned so much of what it takes to come out on top. We finished 3rd at the Dorchester
tournament which is where our season ended. The girls played a close match with Cross
County and then defeated Blue Hill and Lawrence Nelson for the 3rd place finish. I am very
proud of the way the girls learned their positions and discovered the best offense happens when
we are able to set up our hitters. They also learned to wipe off mistakes and work for the next
point. Jozie Kanode led the team in ace serves with 55 and Taylor Pribyl had 34. All the 8th
graders improved their serving accuracy from last year and the 7th graders improved throughout
the year. There are eight girls in the junior high and they were all out for volleyball. They will all
tell you they enjoyed their experience and look forward to being on the court again soon!

Exeter-Milligan/Friend to Play in Friend at 6 p.m.

Exeter-Milligan Update: One Act Play

The Exeter-Milligan One Act cast and crew are preparing for their first performance on November 4, 2018. The performance will be held at Exeter High School at 2:00 P.M. with the FCCLA providing a dessert after the play.  The public is encouraged to attend. The play is called “Teachers on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” by Bradley Hayward and published by Brooklyn Publishers. It is a comedy with five teachers who have reached the end of their patience with their students.  Performing as teachers in the play are Clint Oldehoeft as Mr. Trembley, Kaitlyn Babula as Ms. Fritz, Caitlin Murphy as Ms. Wiens, Jaiden Papik as Mrs. Reisenbach, and Daisy Kanode as Miss Pat. The students are Wesley Ronne, Cameran Jansky, Emma Olsen, Briana Capek, and Braden Capek. They will be performing the play at conference competition on Nov. 14, 2018. District competition will be held at Shickley on November 27, 2018.
