Eighth grader Jaiden Papik goes for two points during the championship matchup between Exeter-Milligan and McCool Junction.  The Timberwolves lost a close won 25-19 placing second in their tournament.

 Jackson Beethe hits the hoop for two more points in the Timberwolves loss to Central City during the Saturday tournament.  After winning their first match against Meridian the Timberwolves fell to Central City 42-20 to place second in their tournament.

Exeter Troop Attends Klondike Derby

Exeter Troop 218 attended the annual Cornhusker Council Klondike Derby on January 20-21 at Camp Cornhusker near Humboldt, Neb.  Seven of the eight members of the troop were able to attend.  The scouts left for camp after school on Friday and arrived at camp to set up their tents and cook supper.

In the morning the scouts prepared their final competition items and gathered for the starting point with their sled.

The theme for the Klondike Derby this year was “Overcoming Obstacles.”

The Troop raced between 10 stations competing in challenges like blindfolded knot tying and playing basketball around the world while sitting in chairs.  The scouts excelled in playing the giant Jenga game while wearing glasses that affected their vision in unusual ways.

Pictured with their sled (from the left) in the back row are Scoutmaster Dean Bartu, Clint Oldehoeft, Tyler Sysel, Joey Bartu, Ben Bartu, and Braden Capek.  In the front are Dakota Wootton and Mikey Bartu.  Also attending were Assistant Scoutmasters Laura Sysel who volunteered to run a station at the event and Leesa Bartu.

Troop 218 was very proud of their giant Jenga skill. Exeter-Milligan Sends Hampton Packing

 It's hard to believe the rescue unit wasn't parked in front of the Exeter gym the last two nights.  The Exeter-Milligan kept the crowd on the edge of their seats with their barn-burner against Giltner on Thursday night and it was the girls versus the top rated Hampton team on Friday night. 
The Timberwolf ladies came out hot Friday night leading the game by 7 points at the half.  Hampton came out hard the third quarter and the lead switched back and forth with the Timberwolves finding their footing again toward the end of the fourth.  They held on to their lead in the last minute putting up a final score of 70-67.

 The Exeter-Milligan boys took an easy lead and dominated the first quarter against the Hampton team who just fielded 9 players. The Timberwolves were well into the first quarter before the Hawks put any points on the board.  After the first quarter the T-wolves were up by 15 and at the half they had extended their lead to 30-11.  Hampton revived after the half and had a strong third quarter but the Timberwolves held on to their lead sending the Hawks packing 49-36

Exeter-Milligan Tops Giltner at Home

 The Exeter-Milligan Lady Timberwolves made their win look easy Thursday night in the Exeter gym.  The final was 52-38 as the girls get ready for their big game against Hampton Friday night at home.

 The Exeter-Milligan boys team had a big win over Giltner Thursday night at home.  The Timberwolves led the first quarter and then Giltner came into the second quarter full steam pulling ahead of E-M by 2 points (21-23).  It was neck and neck down to the last 55 seconds of the game where E-M led by just one point, 47-46. The Timberwolves were able to hold off the Hornets and even stretched their lead by 3 winning 50-47.  The Timberwolves will meet Hampton at home Friday night.

Odegeo…Leadership for Fillmore County

LEADERSHIP CLASS ATTENDS HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES SESSION

FILLMORE COUNTY - The Odegeo…Leadership for Fillmore County class held their Health and Human Services session beginning at the Fillmore County Hospital on January 24, 2017.

 Lisa Hopken, Director of Nursing, gave an overview of the Fillmore County Hospital and  took the group on a tour of the hospital as she told about many of the services offered and have been added since the new hospital opened in 2012.  The group also had a tour of the attached Behavioral Health Pavilion by Stephanie Knight. Using the conference room of the hospital additional speakers came in and gave the class information about other health and/or human services in the County.  They included Marcus Ruhl, Touchstone Orthapaedics, Rod Renken, Geneva Rescue Unit, Sherrie Miller, Blue Valley Community Action (BVCA) and Jill Schmidt, Good Beginnings. Karen Leach took the group on a tour of the Medical Center that is attached to the hospital.  

 After lunch, which was sponsored by the hospital, the group traveled to Fairview Manor in Fairmont where Jan O’Brien told about the concept of Eden Care used at the home and gave the group a tour of the facility.

Fillmore County Offices-East is where the leadership group heard about Fillmore County Senior Services from Rhonda Stokebrand.  Other speakers there were Stacey Eberly and Heather Miller with Easter Seals and Holly Ackland with the Fillmore County Extension Office. 

Heritage Crossings was the last stop of the day. Cherie Domeier directed the group through the facility and explained about the services at Heritage Crossings and their continuum of care with skilled nursing, assisted living, and cottages for independent living.  Heritage Crossings provided snacks and beverages for the group. 

While at Heritage Barbara Koester from Aseracare in York talked to the class about Hospice and Pastor Jeff Jensen, chairman of the Ministerial Association, explained that group’s purpose.

    The February session of the Odegeo. . . Leadership for Fillmore County will take the class to Lincoln to learn about state government and the unicameral system.
