James Sluka #10 for the Timberwolves runs the ball in for a touchdown above and below. The Huskies didn't have much success in stopping Sluka Friday night.
The scene was repeated over and over under the Friday night lights in Milligan. The Timberwolves, playing their first home game along with it being homecoming, let the Huskies know they were in Timberwolf territory.
The first possession of the Huskies resulted in a safety for the Timberwolves with just four minutes off the clock. From there it was a firestorm of scoring for the home team. The Timberwolves had scored two touchdowns by the time that clock had barely ticked off six minutes.
With 6:45 left in the first quarter the Timberwolves were up 26 - 0 behind the big plays of Nolan White and James Sluka. With just over a minute left in the first quarter the score was 44-0. At the end of the first quarter the Huskies finally got on the board scoring six.
The Timberwolves continued to dominate the game scoring several more times during the second quarter. They did allow the Huskies an addition score and with five minutes until half time the score was 62-14.
The Timberwolves continued rolling over the Huskies with some of the younger players having the opportunity for some game time. The final score was 76 - 36 for another Timberwolf victory. The Timberwolves are now 3-0 on the season and will travel to Johnson-Brock next Friday night.

Rose Bush with a Story
The Exeter G.F.W.C. Woman’s Club planted this rose just
south of the Exeter Fire Hall downtown.
Since it was planted the club has taken turns watering and caring for
the rose. The red rose is the G.F.W.C.
flower and was adopted in May of 1940 by the Milwaukie council. Club Member Reba Toothman shared the
information along with the reason behind this particular rose. “In 2008 the current state president asked
that we plant a red rose honoring our G.F.W.C. international president, Rose
Ditto, in a visible public venue in our community.”
Despite hard soil, the club got the rose planted, Erma
Adamson donated the beautiful heart shaped arbor behind it and it has
flourished with the care that it has been given. Several times this summer the
bush was loaded with blooms.

Exeter Cub Scouts Attend Saltdogs Game
Parading before the Saltdogs game the Exeter scouts are led
by Blake Meyer (holding the flag) on the far right and then from right to left
are Devin Harrison, Troy Kallhoff, Mikey Bartu, Josh Meyer, Cubmaster Leesa
Bartu, Ben Bartu and Den Chief Joey Bartu.
Members of Exeter Cub Scout Pack 218 enjoyed a trip to a
Saltdogs game and campout last weekend. Six scouts and their parents
along with Den Chief Joey Bartu attended the evening game at Haymarket Park.
Before the game, the scouts paraded around the field with
their pack flag and then stayed on the field for the opening events. Bear
den member Braden Capek was chosen to be a watchdog for infielder #7
David Espinosa. Capek got a baseball from the Saltdogs and got to
go out on the field with Espinosa who signed his baseball.
During the game the scouts played baseball bingo, paying
attention to each event in the game so they could mark it on their bingo
cards. The Saltdogs were tied 5 and 5 in the bottom of the ninth and with
a runner on base a home run was hit out of the park giving the Saltdogs a 7-5
victory.
Immediately following the game the Saltdogs hosted an
amazing fireworks show before the scouts and their siblings were able to run
the bases.
After base running anyone who wanted to stay could get their
tent and sleeping bags out of their car and set up on the outfield. A
program on disc golf was held and a movie played on the big screen before
lights out at 1 am. Wake up call was at 6:15 am and tents and personal
belongings were removed from the outfield before the scouts and parents picked
up anything left on the field. The scouts enjoyed a catered breakfast
before leaving the stadium.

Student Teacher at Exeter-Milligan
Chelsey Quiqley is a new face at Exeter-Milligan this
fall. She will be at Exeter-Milligan for the fall semester as she assists
Darcy White and Anita Mueller as a student teacher.
Not only is she working with White as an assistant in the
Physical Education department she is also working under White with the
volleyball team.
Quigley, who is from Indianola, Nebraska is working toward
an education degree at York College. She is a PE major with a special ed
endorsement. “I would like to be a Special Ed teacher and also coach
volleyball or basketball.”
Living in York and commuting to Exeter has worked for her so
far, “I had heard a few horror stories about student teaching but so far I am
really enjoying it. Everyone here is awesome. The teachers and
students have been great and it has been a good experience.”
Working with Mueller in the Resource department has also
been rewarding, “I am actually getting to teach a little bit now and am really
enjoying it.”

Exeter-Milligan Welcomes Foreign Exchange Students
Exeter-Milligan welcomed foreign exchange students Madeleine
Ensrud from Norway and Jesper Anker from Denmark this year.
Ensrud is hosted by the Alan and Amy Emshoff
family. The junior is from Soerumsond,
Norway and traveled a full day to get to Exeter.
So far the experience for her has been “going great. I love
the family, and I love living here.”
Although she is enjoying being in Nebraska she does miss her
parents and a big brother and younger sister in Norway. Her dad works in the computer and phone
industry and mom is a supervisor at a kindergarten. Currently her older brother is in college
working on a degree to teach English and Norwegian.
For Ensrud two of the biggest differences in coming here
from Norway have been the people and the landscape. “Everyone is so nice here, that’s very
different and everything is so flat.
There are lots of mountains and hills in Norway,” she explained.
Along with the landscape are the temperature differences, “In
the summer about the hottest day was 75 with the coolest day being around
48. Our average is between 50-60 so it
is very cool.”
Agriculture is a big part of the economy of the area where
Ensurd lives, “We grow more wheat and different grains than here and we produce
hydroelectric power on the river that is just 40 meters from my house.”
Even though the village that Ensrud lives in only has about
5,000 she is used to walking or riding the train everywhere she needs to get
to.
So far, the food in America is one of her favorite
parts. “The food is very different
here. We eat a lot of fruit and only
have sweet or fried items on the weekends.
Sports aren’t a part of the curriculum at her school,
usually students play on club teams.
This year Ensrud plans to participate in FCCLA, one act play and choir.
Anker, also a junior, is already loving his experience in
Nebraska. He is being hosted by the Paul
and Karla Sheffield family.
“Nebraska has some of the nicest people I have ever met,”
said Anker.
Anker is from Stevning, Denmark, a small town like Exeter
that enjoys 60 degree weather in the summer and plenty of rain.
Like Ensrud, his school doesn’t have a sports program but he
has played soccer for a number of years on club teams. He decided to try his hand at playing
football on the Exeter-Milligan team and is really enjoying it so far. He plans to play basketball and also go out
for track.
As far as scholastics go, both Ensrud and Anker are working
on some of the junior coursework including government. Anker finds the history fascinating, “It’s fun
hearing the differences between our government and history and yours. It’s an election year so that’s special as
well.”
Anker is definitely missing his two younger sisters along
with his dad who works as an electrician and his mom who is a the firm
psychologist at a local business, but he is really enjoying having a brother
for the first time at the Sheffield household.
Family life is the same here as it is at home but he finds
the food very different. “We bring our
own lunch and have no cafeteria. We
definitely eat a lot more here. Our main
meal is supper around 7:00 p.m.”
“We have fast food like McDonalds and Burger King in the
bigger towns close buy, in our town we have a grocery store like Greg’s and
most of the industry is IT related.”
Both Ensrud and Anker are looking forward to the school year
progressing along with the cooler weather that fall will bring.
