Exeter Branch of Farmers Cooperative Makes Substatial Additions

The Exeter branch of the Farmers Cooperative recently saw some high dollar improvements.  The grain dryer on the main elevator was replaced at a cost of over $800,000.  The new dryer will process 4,000 bushels an hour and bring the moisture from 20 down to 15 on the corn. While that was installed, a new leg from the older set of elevators to the new storage bin was added.  The work will be completed in several weeks according to Exeter branch manager Alan Vavra.

Main Street in Exeter has a new business opening downtown this week. The Diet Center of York, owned by Gerri McIntyre, has recently opened a branch office in Exeter.

 

Located just inside the law offices of Nancy Waldron, McIntyre plans to be in Exeter on Wednesday's by appointment.  "I hope to make it more convenient for people who live in the area," said McIntyre.

 

She purchased the business last December and has expanded to offices in Hebron and Stromsburg before adding the Exeter location.  She is also looking to open an office in Seward. McIntyre quipped that "Everyone is so busy we need to make this as convenient as we can."

 

The Diet Center has four different diet plans which can be tailored to the needs of individuals.  "We have plans that meet each lifestyle.  Some are designed for users to lose one to two pounds in a week while others are for losing three to four pounds a week," according to McIntyre.

 

The program was started 35 years ago and expanded to four different plans.  Some of the plans use shakes and bars with a sensible dinner while other plans use an eating plan.  To start the program uses the Tanita Scale which measures body composition and the percentage of fat to attain the amount of projected weight that each individual should lose.

Foundation Donates Ice Machine to the Exeter Legion

A new ice machine was recently donated to the Exeter American Legion by the Exeter Community Foundation.  

 

Foundation board member Alan Emshoff noted "We saw there was a need in the community and this was a good place for the money to be spent.  This will not only help out the Legion but also have a great impact for the community as the ice is used by the Exeter Ball Association, Exeter Volunteer Fire Department, Exeter Cub Scouts and the Exeter Chamber of Commerce."

 

Alan Songster, the Exeter Post 218 American Legion Commander spoke on behalf of the Legion, "The Legion and community are very appreciative of the Foundation's donation.  The old ice machine was purchased used and had many repairs this past year. Bob Dumpert spent a lot of time keeping the old machine running."

 

Although the new machine has a slightly smaller footprint than the old machine, new technology helps it produce a greater quantity of ice in a shorter amount of time. As the largest hall available for rent in Exeter, the new ice machine will be a welcome addition to the facility.

 

The Exeter Community Foundation was established in 2008 and is "dedicated to the improvement and long-term viability of the Community," according to their website.

 

Towards that end, the Foundation also recently donated funds to the Exeter G.F.W.C. Woman's club to help continue their Arbor Day tree program which welcomes new babies to the community.

Volleyball Strong Again

After back to back State Championships the Exeter-Milligan Volleyball team is out to prove themselves yet again.  This year just one senior, Claire White, is on the team.  The very young team has already shown it's talent and are looking toward another winning season with Head Coach Darcy White and Assistant Coach Laura Kroll.  Their first match up will be September 1st at 5:30 in Milligan versus Hampton.  At 6:30 Bruning Davenport Shickley will play Hampton and the Exeter-Milligan against Bruning Davenport Shickley at 7:30 p.m.

This year's Fillmore Central Exeter-Milligan Softball team already has several wins under it's belt this season.  These talented ladies headed to the State Tournament last year and are projected to be seen there again this year.

Golf Team Has New Coach

Exeter-Milligan Golf team will be coached by Matt Nicholas this year.  They are looking forward to a growing season.  Even though they have three seniors on their team only Becca Vossler has played on the team all four years of her career.

End of Summer Exeter Aquatic Center Hours

Exeter Aquatic Center will be open this week for their regular hours including weekend hours.

During the week of August 22 through September 2nd their WEEKDAY hours will be

3:30 (after school) until 8:30 p.m. with NO Supper break

Regular hours for weekends. The pool will close for the season on Sunday, September 4th.

Obituary: Francis Stride

Francis Edward Stride was born to Francis Edward Stride on April 27, 1968, at Watertown, South Dakota, and he passed away August 8, 2011, at home in Exeter, Nebraska at the age of 43 years, 3 months, and 11 days. He was one of 4 children in the family. 

Francis graduated from Lincoln High School in 1987 and then he attended Central Community College in Hastings for Truck Driving School. He recently had been driving a truck for several years for Friend Freightways.

On September 30, 1989 he married Lorianna M. Francisco, and together they raised 4 children.
Francis was a hard working man, always joking and easy to make laugh. He was an amazing brother, husband, and father. He adored and loved his family very much. The relationships that were most important to him were his wife, kids, and granddaughter. Those were the people that most influenced his life. When he was young he liked to fish, play football and swim at Bowling Lake.

When he had free time he still enjoyed fishing, relaxing outdoors, working or fixing up random things, spending time with family and his dogs. He was interested in cars and semis. He collected toy semis and cars and anything that a John Deere logo on it. A lot of people remember him by his camouflage hat, yellow tank t-shirt, driving semis and fixing everything with duct tape and zip ties. He was always about smiles and laughing. Every morning when he was home you’d wake up to the smell of coffee brewing because Lorianna would always have fresh coffee ready for his John Deere coffee mug. Francis thoroughly enjoyed life and accomplished everything he could, and he was proud of everything he accomplished in his life.

Francis was preceded in death by his grandparents Herald Edward and Edna Mae Stride; and by his brothers Christian Edward Stride and Buddy Edward Stride.

He is survived by his wife Lorianna Marie Stride; daughters Whitney Marie McDonald, Jordin Due and husband Anthony, Hunter KayLn Lea Stride; son Austin Francis Stride; sister Kacy Wanek; father Francis Edward Stride; and granddaughter Tyler Marie Due.

Funeral services for Francis were held on Friday, August 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Friend Christian Assembly in Friend, Nebraska with Pastor Jerry Gill officiating the services. Pallbearers for the service included Austin Stride, Mark White, Troy Moses, Anthony Due, Phil Woodmancy, and Mike Woodmancy. Honorary bearers included Jad Dorsey and Bo Mattox. Interment was in the Exeter Cemetery with Farmer & Son Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials are directed to the family.

Exeter-Milligan Open House
